MagniShine HF-66 does the job

I decided to get back to embroidery but needed a magnifier to be able to do this. I had one years ago, but had no idea what happened to it. So I searched many lighted magnifiers on Amazon, at all kinds of prices and battery types, as well as magnification levels, with and without spots, etc. until I pulled one up and, lo and behold! Amazon informed me that this was the very one I had purchased long ago. The price was a full $12 less than one I had waiting in the cart. Since I remembered I had been happy with it, I decided to buy it again. I’m very glad I did. The cord is easy to adjust and the battery installation was easy too. I pulled out a piece of embroidery to check the magnification and light value, and it was perfect!

Great Gift

Honestly I haven't ordered mine yet - but I will as soon as I'm done typing this review. I bought this for my Aunt who has very poor eyesight. She never complains - dutifully puts drops in her eyes twice a day ... uses a hand held mangifier for bills and check writing - reading a bible in huge print - at 85 years young. She does however ask you to come close so she can see your new blouse and compliment you on how nice you look... she's such an awesome lady. Well she had some table linens to display for an upcoming tea and hadn't noticed they were not yet cleaned from prior use - she was embarrased because she didn't see that some were a teeny bit dirty till we told her. That's when I thought about getting anything at all that would make this part of life a bit easier - the basic gift of eyesight we so take for granted until it begins to fade.... I found this hands free magnifier and the price was very within my budget so sent it to her across state lines right away. She received it today and absolutely loves it! She on her own inserted the 3 AAA batteries she had in a desk drawer I guess. She did not say that the battery door broke - I was so grateful because some reviews said it's easy to snap it off - so beware I thought. Anyway she did insert the batteries just fine - I watched the Amazon video on the product and mentioned to my Aunty that you can adjust the neck strap to above your bust or below as shown in the video I saw - she didn't say much about that part ... so in whatever way or length of neck cord she's using it - this is what she said, "I never had one of these - so I never knew I needed one of these - but now that I have one of these - I wonder how I ever lived without one of these!" So if you are looking for a great inexpensive gift - or stocking stuffer for yourself or a friend/coworker or family member - who would like some better eyesight without having to hold a magnifier ... this is a very thoughtful thing to provide for them. If it broke it's not a huge sum you've paid - but just be careful with the batteries and maybe all well be well if the door stays intact and functional... other than that - I sorta wish maybe it was a higher power magnification perhaps if I had to choose any possible downside - I just bought an OTT lamp and it has a 3X magnifier and I wanted better than that even and I think this product is a 2X - but in any event my Aunty can't wait to use this in the morning as she reads her bible - today it was used for other little tasks.. So now I will go ahead and order one of these for my sibs and my dad for Christmas and me too!

The light is terrible

The magnification is great. The light does not work. If you are staring at the light when you turn it on, you can see it turn on, but it does not light anything up.

craft magnifier

I wanted to use this instead of reading glasses while working on my latest craft craze (diamond painting).. it didn't really work for that as I could never manage to get the magnifier out of my way as I worked! Its large.. you look through it as it is hanging from your neck and resting on your chest. So I personally found it too awkward. However, it is a good magnifier. It has a really useful light too. So I use it for magnifying other things. The cord is quite thin and is adjustable, the glass has a good weight to it. There is switch for the light. I never hesitate to update my reviews should new info seem useful.

Lens size a little small. Light not bright enough.

I do a lot of cross stich and was looking for a good hands free magnifier. I like that this has the spot lens and it's comfortable to wear. What I didn't care for was the overall lens size - it's a bit smaller than I expected when compared to a different brand that is sold with supposedly the same size lens. It also seems like the magnifying strength is stronger than 2x. The light is not quite as bright as I like either. However I really liked the battery compartment location and design. I had been using a Rumfro magnifier which was pretty good but the battery compartment design was terrible and failed in less than 4 months. If you are looking for a magnifier for anything other than cross stitch work and you don't need a really bright light then this could be for you.

So glad I decided to try this - it is such a helpful tool!

I started a big cross stitch project over 30 years ago and completed about 2/3 of it. Not sure why I never finished it but I recently came across it and decided to finish it. I’ve known that my eyesight wasn’t what it used to be, but had no idea how crippling it would be to try to cross stitch again with my “old people eyes”! I decided to order this item to see if it would help. This thing has made all the difference in the world! Now instead of struggling to see even with reading glasses, this hands-free magnifier helps so much! It works great without the light, but the light is definitely a plus. I love using this with my cross stitch and can see where it will come in handy with other similar projects too.

Works Great!

Delivery was super fast! Very easy to use and is ideal for reading the print on pill bottles etc. Originally was looking for my mom who has macular degeneration hoping it will allow her to install her batteries into her hearing aids. Will see how that works. I also bought one for myself for things like threading a needle, and small print. Works great! Great purchase.
