If you need a wave maker...why not try this?
So, the only reason I took off a star was because I found this filter too be too strong for the intended tank (2.5 Gallon...the product advertises "up to 3 gallons") and community. The fish were having to fight hard against the current. Switching it to the lowest setting was still to powerful...and trying to decrease flow by "thickening up" the filter media both inside and/or outside diminished the suction and filter aspects too much. BUT EVEN WITH THAT INITIAL DISAPPOINTMENT, I was looking into finding a way to added a little current in my larger 30 Gal tank and this actually fit the bill. Sure, I could just get a wavemaker, but using this gives me a three in one package: 1. I get a light and controllable water current that is comfortable for this tank's community 2. I have a secondary filtration system to help keep things clean 3. And it has the ability to aerate the tank (or even defuse CO2 if anyone is seeking that instead). Additional points: 1. The chamber is big enough to customize so not only did I switch out the sponge filter there, I added more bio media. 2. Super easy to clean and take apart. 3. The size is much less bulky or imposing than most of the wave makers I had used. 4. The four suction cups prevent it from moving around. To give context about what I mean, one wave maker I used was too strong for my fish. To try and mitigate the current I little, I tried to direct the current to aimed at one of the tank walls. It made the current more manageable, but then the wave maker would start moving on its own because of the jet propulsion. CONCLUSION So, do I need another filter and air pump? No. I already have some sponge filters powered by an air pump, and my HOB is doing a really good job at cleaning. However, for the price of many a wave maker, why not have a secondary filter and air pump as part of the package? It's a good fail safe to buy time if I ever need to replace an air pump or if my HOB malfunctions...all that while adding that extra wave maker action...and it is fairly small and easy to keep out of the way, too

Nice little heater for Bettas
This is small and unobtrusive. It keeps the water at the right temperature automatically so no need to play around with dials etc. Perfect for a small Betta or shrimp aquarium.

Powerful and quiet
Great little filter for my 2g betta tank. Super easy to assemble. I put in a small bag of carbon to help with filtration, by cutting the sponge filter by 40% roughly.

Tip for Betta, strong current fix
I was trying to find a filter gentle enough for my kids 2 bettas because they were being knocked around by too strong of a current. I'm a novice to say the least and didn't understand how to set up a sponge filter, so I chose this one. This filter is supposed to be for small tanks and has a current adjuster switch, but the low setting was still too strong. After several attempts using different things, I figured out a way to make this work. I bought activated carbon in pre-made packets, but the packet was too big so I cut the toe off a sheer pantyhose, poured some granules from the packet into it and tied it off. Then I put this new homemade "packet" into the Elite filter, replacing the (nylon??) "sponge" that came with it. I had to leave a little space in the filter-- make the makeshift bag of carbon small enough that it doesn't fill the whole space in the filter (but not so small the water runs through too quickly) - because otherwise the air valve that goes to the surface continually overflowed with water. It's working very nicely, the flow is just right and the carbon should do a good job keeping the tank cleaner.

Forget those expensive fancy filters
I have two of these pumps now. The first one is used to move water in a 5.5 G tank in which I have two Amazon Sword plants. There are also 11 Neon Tetra and 8 Rasbora Hats. It works very well and I have very little algae in there. I only need to wipe the glass every few months. Encouraged by the results, I bought a second one and use that to move water in a 29 G, in which I have several very large Anubias plants (they occupy at least half of the tank) and some Javafern, and 60 Neon Tetras and a couple bristlenose pleco. To make the pump most powerful, I removed the foam inside. This way it creates a slow current across the tank. This setup is even more successful: I have very little algae and only wipe the tank every few months (matter of fact I don't even remember when did I do that last time). In both tanks the plants are the bio-filter. I don't have any other filters in the tanks. As people know, water movement is essential for healthy plants. To achieve this, I aim the water outlet of the pump at the water surface so that it agitates the surface and allows sufficient gas exchange between the air and the water. I don't use the included air bubble tube at all as I think it looks silly with the bubbles in the tank plus it's noisy. Combine this with a very large plant biomass (preferably low light plants), you don't need any other filters. When people use fancy filters that physically, chemically, and biologically filters the water, I only need to use this 10 dollar filter, and my tank looks as clean as theirs, if not cleaner. Plus it's low maintenance, since there's no filters to change, because my plants are the filter. Now the filter itself: it's quiet but not silent. Depending on how noisy the environment is, you may or may not hear it running. I have no complaints so far.

Great with some modifications
Four stars because it had to be modified to operate properly in a 1.5 gallon tank. Since the output is way too strong (even with the lowest setting) for a 1.5 gallon tank housing a betta, I cut up a sponge from a different filter and stuffed it in the output nozzle on the end that connects to the filter body. The filter sponge that is included has a hole in the middle. I stuffed it with activated carbon and covered it up with a piece of sponge from a different filter. The air tubing was too long for my application, so I had to cut it in half. One minor quirk is that, if there is any water in the air tubing, no water will come out of the output nozzle. So make sure that no water gets in the tube during installation and make sure to open up the air tubing valve, otherwise you will have no water output.

Great little filter!
Finally! It took a while for me to find a good small filter for my 2.5 gallon betta fish tank, but I saw this on sale for about $12 and the reviews looked good enough so I went for it. So happy I did! Assembly is super simple and easy. At first I thought the strength was too much, then I realized the green switch on the side can be used to adjust the flow. The little bubbles the filter makes looks cute in the tank. Cleaning the filter with a quick rinse and squeeze is easy. Replacement filters are cheap too. Definitely recommend!

Way too strong for a beta!
Filter says it’s for up to 3 gallons. I planned to use it for my 2.5 gallon tank with a beta fish, but it was waaay too strong! Even with plants and decorations in front of it, the flow still pushed the poor fish to the other side of the tank. I had to tape half the flow hole so that it wasn’t as strong AND put a plant in front of it for it to be okay for the beta. Only used it til I found a “weaker” flow filter. Nonetheless was still a good filter! Just too strong!

flow too strong for betta
i been struggling with this filter and in the end just had to buy another brand. the flow is adjustable but even the lowest setting is just too strong and freaks my betta out! ive been having to shove lil sponges were the water comes out to soften the flow which works but the water doesnt get properly filtered that way. good points tho: small, not noisy at all.

Good!
Definitely a nice compact, small and quiet filter. I have this for my 2.5 betta fish tank, though I do not recommend this for a betta because the current is quite strong, but, like a review said on this thread, what I did was put the sponge media on the part of the filter that pushes the water out and that really slows down the flow. Doing this solved my problem!:)
