Push to test vs on/off button
Got this brand again because my last one of this brand lasted over 10 years. Very sensitive. My old unit had give false positives a few times lately so I thought it might be time to replace since it rarely had in the past. This unit takes a single AAA battery rather than the button cells like the last. Srill has the momentary push switch that I prefer like the older unit rather than an on off. Hopefully no false positives with this one but I'll take and over-sensitive and false positive over a false negative any day. The only time any brand unit has given me a false negative was on a heavily insulated range line so I see why GB makes them a little on the sensitive side. They'd rather we be annoyed on rare occasions but live.

sturdy and good quality for this price
Very handy device. Gave it 5 stars even if it got limitations due to design. It likely works by detecting any form of induction in the tested wire..... So, wire coming from a loaded/crowded junction box can carry inductive charge with very low voltage that would be detected making you thinking there is line voltage on it..... No big deal as the reverse would be much more dangerous.... So, in these odd case I just confirm with a regular contact based meter.... Love it anyway!

Design flaw
This works as well as other noncontact probes I've used, but the button used to turn the unit on isn't recessed so it's constantly being pressed by other things in my bag. I wish they would recess the button slightly on future models to avoid unintended false alerts.

A quick and easy way to check which bulb is broken
This little gizmo is perfect for checking each bulb on a set of Xmas lights without having to unscrew each one and try a replacement bulb or fiddling with the fuses first. Just plug in the lights and touch the sensor to each bulb to see if the tester lights up signifying a current or not. When it doesn't light up you know you've found a busted bulb. A real time saver.

Don’t need anything else
This is great for what it should be used for! Don’t need any gimmicks built into it.

You don’t need to buy an expensive one.
Second one, first died, yes new batteries, they don’t last forever. Could have dropped it hard, bought locally, better price on Amazon.

It is What it is, but does not work for testing LED Xmas light strings.
This device lights up when in the proximity of AC electrical current. We tried it all over the house and find that it's a bit too sensitive, but better that than not sensitive enough and risk a shock. However, we bought this exact model because one of the review that said it works for finding bad bulbs in string lights. Also, we saw a YouTube video showing the same model being used for this. Perhaps it does not work for LED bulbs vs incandescent, because we could not find the bad bulbs using this despite several attempts. Still, it will be handy to have in the tool box as a quick test to see if an electrical outlet has power to it.

Works perfectly
I had initially bought this product in a kit (pen + outlet tester) and had to buy another pen because I couldnt find it anywhere (turns out my Dad had borrowed it and I had forgotten all about it) I bought other brands that had 5 stars reviews and ended up returning all of them and buying this one again. It is simply the best in my opinion. It may not have all the buttons and options that you'll find on other similar products, but it is much more precise and sensitive, no false reading whatsoever

Better to go with Klein tools...
The pro of this device is that it is less than the Klein tools counterpart but it stops there. Like many other reviewers I found this device to pick up false positives when there was no current (breaker turned off). You must hold the very small black button in order to activate it. For something as serious as checking currents I would not spare a few dollars and recommend picking up a more reliable device.

Safety first!
Love this! It's a great tool to use around the house to ensure there's no power running through a line. I use this in conjunction with an outlet tester any time I'm about to check a wire or other electronic. Before putting my complete faith in this tool, I tested it around the house on various live and dead wires. Also tested lines before and after killing the line at the panel. Even tested through various thickness of materials and it worked. It was almost flawless against any test I threw at it. One note: press the test button before pointing it at an electrical source. I've read that allows it to calibrate itself.

Pretty great. Keeps you safe. Hard to put a price on safety but certainly $15 doesn't even factor in. I bought 3.
I like that this version takes one AAA battery instead of the older version which took the circular LR44s. The LR44s have been involved in a number of infant deaths as they swallow them quite easily. I had one of the older version also go haywire and detect electricity everywhere - I put that in the trash. I find the form to be pleasing in the hand and it is thin and fits in jean pocket somewhat nicely. I have a few other non-contact testers but I favor this one. Yes the non-contact volt detector does have its limitation - sometimes it can detect ghost voltage where a wire is acting as an antenna and sometimes it is going to be hard to determine which wire in a box is live if there are multiple wires. For these cases you go and use your multimeter. I don't think a non-contact volt meter is ever going to be 100% reliable - maybe there is a much better one and I just haven't seen it.
