Ugly gap? How to seat trim flush.

Not sitting flush? It's not the trim ring, it's probably the housing. Specifically the idiotic remodel housing. I've had no problems using an IC new construction box. Remodel housing required tweaks. The clips on the remodel housing can stick out and catch the trim ring when you insert it. You push it all the way in, yet it pops 1/4" out. No twisting or pushing will fix it as it acts like a spring... If you carefully bend down the tab so it's more flush to the housing, the trim ring will slide in and hold tight to the ceiling. This applies to all the 3" Halo trim rings. Nice enough looking trim ring. You may want to experiment with different angle bulbs to get the best effect. Narrow beam bulbs may work better. Placing housing ~18" from the wall on an 8' ceiling gives a nicely placed wash for artwork.
