Perfect Kitchen Colander

I must have read 50 reviews of different mesh colanders before I decided on the HIC Brands Cooks Essentials 10-inch. I am extremely pleased with my purchase--I put the colander to immediate use when it arrived, and have used it daily since. It is sturdy and easy to pick up with a nice "lip" around the rim, so when you lift it to shake out the last bits of liquid it won't slip out of your fingers. My last colander had handles, which I never used and just got in the way. This design makes it a pleasure to use. I put it in the dishwasher with great results. It is neither too stiff nor too soft, and it's construction promises that it will last for many years. My last mesh colander had a ring soldered onto the bottom to stand on, and eventually that came away from the colander and fell off, rendering it useless. There is no way that could happen with this one. Buy it--you'll be glad you did!

I received the new Mesh Colander in a timely fashion. It was basically a replacement of the older Mesh Colander we had on hand, which was wearing out a bit. The only thing is that the new colander is a bit smaller than our older one, but to me, it is still basically the same...; overall, I think it was a good purchase!

Misleading data on size

Exactly the size I needed, fortunately, but not the size indicated in the description. Those with an expectation of accurate data might consider the following. 10-Inch model measured: Frame 9.75" Dia., 4.5" Ht.; Strainer 8.6" Dia., 4" Ht. 9-Inch model measured: Frame 8.8" Dia., 4.1" Ht.; Strainer 7.7" Dia., 3.4" Ht. One might consider extrapolating those data for the actual size of other models.

the colander of choice

I love this colander. we have several already. They are solidly built, stacks well with the other colanders, and cleans well.

Sturdy, perfect sized Strainer/Colander

This is a great Strainer/Colander. I don't expect the mesh to bend out of shape and the frame is sturdy enough to "bang the water out of it" against my sink. The price was reasonable.

I'm using it to cool roasted coffee beans over a fan. It works well for that purpose. There might be a problem cleaning it after draining spaghetti though, because of all its crooks and crannies for gunk to deposit in.

This colander appears to be very quality construction and imagine it will last for years with no problems. Nice size.

Good product, a touch smaller than expected

Nice strainer, seems well put together for sure. I've used it a few times already, it washes up well. Can't comment on long term rust resistance yet. Just FYI, the 10 inch is actually 9.75" diameter on the outside rim, and 9.25" diameter inside the rim at the top. So just a bit smaller than I expected. It will still be very useful, but had I known the actual dimensions I might have chosen the next size up.

Sturdy

Well constructed, should last for years of heavy use. Great for draining small grainy foods like lentils, as the holes are smaller than the cheap plastic ones. The only thing I didn't like is the way the metal is put together leaves a lot of nooks and crannies for food to get caught in, making it a chore to clean.
