Heavy duty
This is much higher quality than most stock wiring. Great replacement upgrade.

Works exactly as expected.
This was an open box item at about half the cost. It was perfect and works exactly as advertised and expected.

Non-standard wiring color code
The connector seemed decently solid although not quite as stout as the OEM Ford connector it replaced. The molded cable was nice and the length was good for my purpose. Installation was easy. I just drilled a 2" hole in the steel bumper next to the license plate and then used self tapping screws to attach the connector. I then ran the attached molded cable to the wiring harness where the OEM trailer wires were and soldered / heat shrinked them matching like colors. The problem I encountered was that the color code is different inside the connector than any standard trailer wiring scheme. It's even different than the color code I got from Hopkins' website for this very connector. I don't remember the exact color code but I do remember that the center pin was yellow when it should be purple or black. Here's what the standard code should be... Ground - White 12V supply - Red (or orange) Reverse - Purple (or black) Brake - Blue Left turn - Yellow Right turn - Green Tail - Brown A standard wiring diagram can be found here... http://www.etrailer.com/faq-wiring.aspx

Plug & Play
I have a 2011 Toyota Tacoma, which this was designed for. I decided to buy this, so I can get a brake controller. So if I have to tow a camper or whatever. My owners manual said where the factory installed plug would be located. Right behind the left kick panel. I have a aftermarket remote starter on my truck,. That is where all of the wiring is hidden. making it harder to find my plug. Once I found the plug, I had to carefully pull it down from behind the starter wires. The factory doesn't give you much wire on the factory plug. But once lined up, it was a quick snap & connector was hooked up. Just need to get a controller now.

Lid does not hold trailer's 7-pin cord in place securely
Replaced factory 7-pin socket on a 2011 Mercedes ML350 with this one, as I wanted to upgrade the charge and ground wire size to send more power to the trailer. The ML350 has a slightly awkward arrangement where the socket points down to the pavement at a pretty good angle - however, the factory socket held on to the trailer's cord without issue. The Hopkins socket loosens up and we lose electrical connection to the trailer (no lights, no trailer brakes) after just several minutes of driving. You can see in the photo what we had to do to get to our destination with connection intact. We've been unable to get this product to work satisfactorily in this regard. I will replace it with a Curt socket.

Easy and great value.
Great value, easy to install once you dig through the wires inside my truck ( that took 5 times longer than Installing the brake controller) I install mine using velcro and not the supplied bracket.

Plug-In Simple is just that
This is the Plug-In Simple connector (with both plug ends and 4 wires) and it is just that. Plug in to your brake controller, plug in to your vehicle's connector - done. It takes more time to remove the access panel to the vehicle's plug. Minus 1 star because I think it is a bit overpriced and made in Mexico. However, it was less expensive than in the stores and they don't carry this one for Toyota, usually only Ford and GMC. Credit to Hopkins for not changing plug styles for their brake controllers. This fits my 13-year old Impulse controller, which works just fine since it hasn't been used a lot anyway.
