Nifty weight that doesn't take up space

I purchased this bell about 6 months ago as my first kettlebell ever. One of my good friends was given one by her personal trainer brother, so I thought it might be worth chekcing out. I ordered this one, enjoyed Amazon's lovely Prime shipping, and got to work. For a marshmallowy beginner, it was certainly heavy but I persevered and am now quite proudly ready to move up in bell weight! I like this bell because the handle is smooth and large enough to get both my hands on the weight during two handed exercises. The handle is wide enough to catch easily when I do the alternating between arms toss exercise. I much prefer the vinyl coating because this thing has to sit on my floor in my house and the coating prevents scuffs, scrapes, and gouges. When I want to get acrobatic with this weight, I take it outside to the backyard. I can drop it, throw it, trip over it, and be as rough with it as I like and the vinyl still holds up. That's not to say you could toss it into gravel or carve at it with a knife and have the same results, but for general backyard abuse, the vinyl coat stands up well. I am quite fond of my 20 lb bell, and it definitely gives me a good workout. However, you can hurt yourself with these weights (just like you can with any weight) so pay attention to your form and get a lesson or two if you are new to them. Another benefit of the j/fit vinyl kettlebell is that if you purchase more than one, the weights are color coded with the vinyl jacket. If you're looking for a chunk of metal capable of giving you a workout, are concerned about your floors, and enjoy a little color, this is a great choice.

Disappointed in quality for price

For the cost of this item (almost $2.5/pound) I am rather disappointed in the quality. FYI, this came in a mfg box that was shipped to Amazon, and Amazon shipped that inside a larger box to me. The bell came with the finish damaged on almost the entire handle, rust spots and also medium, jagged burrs that are directly in the gripping area. Without sanding, these will certainly rip up my hands, which is why I give this 2 stars. That kind of quality makes no sense on a product that will see heavy handle usage. I am further disappointed because I just happened to be at Walmart a few hours ago before I got home and opened this box, where I saw Gold's Gym kettle bells that have a rubber coating on them which I liked quite a bit, and they were significantly less. (about $1.5/pound) I did a lot of kettle bell comparison and never came across these in general searches, which is why I am mentioning them. I looked them up online when I got home and they are neoprene coated which gives them a little more shock absorption and traction than the vinyl, though they probably aren't as easy to clean as the vinyl. I am not a particular fan of the Gold's Gym brand, but I can already tell you my next kettle bell purchase will be one of those. It is worth noting that I also bought the 25lb bell from J Fit which arrived in a much better condition with very minor finish damage on the under handle, no rust and no burrs. Though, it does have a cross-slash about 1/2" wide in the vinyl. It was also packaged with a soft liner in the mfg box, whereas the 20lb was not. *update* Also note, my hands are about 3 1/2" wide from pinky to index across the knuckles. I cannot fully grip this with both hands wrapped comfortably: I end up leaving my pinkies on the outside. However, there is just enough clearance on the 25lb one.

Don't pay more than you have to. Buy this well balanced, vinyl protected, smooth handled, flat bottom kettlebell!

I have been using this kettlebell for 18 months and I think the quality and price is excellent. Kettlebells are not complicated; they simply need to be well balanced, have a wide smooth handle, and flat bottoms. This kettlebell has all that plus a cool vinyl coating that will protect your arms, hands and floors. After 18 months of use, I have not seen any degradation in the quality; they look and feel the same as the day I bought them. In general, I highly recommend you start exercising with kettle bells. In particular, I think the value of this brand is hard to beat. The beauty of working out with kettlebells is there are so many ways to use them (just google kettlebell workout) and it doesn't take long to learn how. Once you know how to use them, you will be amazed that almost every kettlebell exercise yields a good cardio, leg and ab workout while simultaneously putting decent tension on your arm muscles. My only recommendation is to be extra careful and master the form before going up in weight because you can hurt your back. Kettlebell exercises, while easy to learn, must be done correctly to avoid injury. I hope this review helped. If it did, please click the yes button below.

If you are going to use it for traction, I would suggest a heavier model.

This kettlebell lives in my closet, along with my Bicep Bomber, and my Perfect Push Ups. I bought it after watching some Soviet iron man kettlebell workout video on Youtube. Logically, I thought "Oh I could do that workout", even though I get winded just running down the street chasing the UPS guy when he rings the doorbell and then windsprints back to his truck after leaving a "sorry we missed you" slip a on my doorknob in the 4 seconds it takes me to get to the front door. Which really makes me want to order a box of like thirty kettlebells and see how fast he gets away after lugging it across my yard. Anyway, this kettlebell is of excellent quality, and though I have seldom used it for its intended purpose, it has satisfactorily fulfilled other functions. First and foremost, it has proven to be worthy doorstop, and it once performed admirably after being put into the bed of my old truck with a couple dumbbells and two five gallon jugs of water, so I could get extra traction when it was snowy outside. However, if you are going to use it for traction, I would suggest a heavier model.

Quality

I own a selection of iron KB's. Thought I'd purchase a couple of vinyl covered KB's. I like the coloured vinyl. The KB's are sturdy, the handles smooth and the right diameter, and the weight rests easy on the forearm in the racked position. Quality KBs. No complaints.

Exactly what I was looking for

What you see is what you get. Exactly as shown in the Photo. I use these on a regular basis and find them extremely comfortable. Might be better with gloves, just a suggestion
