Overall a good easel

This easel was purchased for my 2.5yo for Christmas. In the two weeks that we have had it, the easel has seen lots of use. Overall I would say it is a very good easel. Setup was not too bad, with the exception of attaching the legs to the top, which was tricky because the precut holes are tiny. One of the trays came with a small chip, so I called Kidkraft customer service and a new tray was sent out within a week. The kids love the easel and both sides get lots of use. I was worried about the chalkboard side, as people tend to comment that chalkboards on most easels are not very good. But if you prep the chalkboard as described in the directions, it works fine. I also purchased the Crayola whiteboard crayons, which work great on the whiteboard side. (Tip: use a baby wipe to remove them.) I took off one star because the legs are not as strong as I would like for long term use. But this is normal with easels at this price range. I would say $50-60 is a fair price for this easel. Overall a good buy and I would recommend.

Important info for potential buyers.

I bought this easel for my 3 year old's Christmas gift. It is important to have sturdy items that children can be themselves around. Being a construction foreman for 8 years gave me a clear understanding of how wood joints should be designed in order to withstand damage. Each of the four legs on this easel have a joint in the middle intended to decrease packaging size and costs, which is understandable. Notwithstanding, the way the joints were designed creates the one potentially fatal flaw of the product. A child simply leaning against one of the legs could easily snap the joint, rendering the easel unusable. A bit of handy work could easily solve the problem but this is certainly something the manufacturer could have addressed more thoroughly. If you are not accustomed to fixing your own things then this item will likely be a waste of your time and money as it will end up in a land fill.

Fun for the young

Ideal gift for my 5 year old grandson - Easel is sturdy - paper roll and blackboard function well, the dry erase board requires a water solution to wipe the board clean - using dry erase pens on the board will not wipe clean with a dry eraser. Disappointing. Overall a good design and a product that will provide many hours of creativity.

It's a easel

I don't like how the chalkboard is so soft chalk scratches it. I don't like how the cross bars flex even slightly tightened to hold down paper and don't hold it instead. But it does work for drawing on and it's sturdy so that it doesn't fall as for thickness I don't know why that matters. Do I think it's worth the price no. But I think your kids will enjoy using it.

Large area for art

Both my two year old and five year old love this gift. It is easy to put together. I thought it would be a bit more sturdy and have a more "finished" look like the smaller one my five year old had, but I am happy to trade that for something that is fairly easy to stow under the bed.

Well Worth the Money

I researched many many art easels before deciding on this one. It is sturdy and well worth the price! My daughter is four and this easel will be large enough for her to enjoy for years to come. The chalk board and dry erase board is well made...erases just fine also. Makes you feel good to buy such a well made product.

Nice easel

Easy to put together. It's a little wobbly, but the materials seem well made. It's a little hard to feed the paper through at first: it was either too tight or the screws came completely out. Not a huge problem or a deal breaker though.
