Good play set

Ordered these as a replacement for an old set we have that we’ve lost some pieces to. Food itself is great quality, but the toaster broke within a couple months of regular play, nothing aggressive. But we still had the one from the first set we owned so it didn’t really matter. I’m guessing it was a fluke because the old toaster is over 2 years old and going strong!

One bad egg, but a great breakfast set overall.

I have purchased learning resources foods before and have always found them to be of a great quality and worth the price, this set was no different. I worried that the toaster and velcro cutable foods were going to be destroyed by my twin daughters and their overly enthusiastic approach to cooking, but they have held up great! Much better than some of our other play foods and cooking set. I would definitely recommend this set for kids who like creative play and cooking. The only thing that is a little silly and I ultimately had to remove from the set was the egg's shell. The egg is great; I would buy more of the cracked eggs if they were sold separately, but the shell doesn't fit together right and it is difficult to get the actual egg in to it. My kids would get frustrated trying to get the egg back together on their own and even more so when I wouldn't do much better than they had; so it now lives in a hard to reach cabinet with all the other misfit "lost" toys.

ALMOST perfect kitchen play toy with one minor complaint

Our 2 (almost 3) year old daughter is going through a phase where she is fascinated with kitchen toys, especially Breakfast. As a result of watching Daddy make scrambled eggs one day. So we ordered this little toy breakfast playset. It is almost perfect. All the little food items and utensils are well made and easy for a child to identify, name, and handle. Her favorite items are the egg that cracks open, the skillet and spatula, the pancakes and the muffin with pretend blueberries inside (don't worry, those blueberries are sculpted as one piece in a bunch so a child can't swallow them!). Which is all great. But here is my one complaint about this otherwise perfect toy: The highlight of this set is the little toaster and slice of pretend bread. It is a spring-loaded toy that is supposed to pop the bread up. Well, it popped up beautifully for us - exactly one time, but on the second time pushing the lever down, we heard something inside go crunch and it wouldn't work anymore. Being a Dad, I got out my tiniest screwdrivers and opened up the toy toaster, sure that something had just come loose and intent on fixing it. What I found was that the spring-loaded mechanism inside was made of very cheap little hokey moving parts that barely stayed together. Even when I put them back together for the "pop up" effect, I could tell they would just come loose again. After fussing with it a while longer, I finally said, "the heck with this, she's two and a half, as long as she can move the lever and make the play toast go up and down, she's not gonna care if it pops out." And I just simply removed all the hokey spring-loaded mechanism parts, and put the shell of the toaster back together. My baby girl can still move the lever and make the bread go up and down, doesn't know the difference, and loves her new toy toaster just fine. It's become a cool part of her little toy kitchen area she plays with all the time. So, no big deal. Someday we will buy her a better-made toy toaster, this will do fine till then. But I wanted to tell this story just to give other parents a little warning. Maybe we just got one defective piece and yours won't have this problem. Other than that one flaw this is a great set.

Some Parts Didn’t Last Long

I think Learning Resources has the best play food…..it’s realistic looking, has a rubberized feel, and is heavier than other plastic food. Like other reviewers said, the toaster stopped working after a few times. My grandson loved it the few times it worked, but then the toast wouldn’t stay down, and “pop up.” Toys just don’t seem to last like they used to, (not that they couldn’t be made to last) but they should last more than two hours. Update: My husband took the bottom of the toaster off, and tightened a screw inside, so the toaster is working again.

Old style Learning Resources had some flaws

The toaster makes the bread fly a little, but the waffle is too heavy to fly. It's a fun toy. The toaster makes it worth it. The muffin pieces do not attach to each other. The egg is hard to flatten but it goes in the shell just fine. The strawberry slices do not velcro together due to the velcro being sunken in. The cup of juice is comically big. However, that is obviously because it is from the old Learning Resources style. I like the newer style. All my other toys are the newer style. So, this cup doesn't match the rest. But I suppose it's okay.

Very cheap made

I am a big fan of this band, I have ordered many things over the last 2 years. The toaster in this box broke the second time used, very disappointed , it was taken apart fixed and broke again, I would have returned but I trusted everything to be good and recycled the box.

The toaster broke after ONE use...by an adult!

I'm so disappointed. I'm a grandma, buying this and other Learning Resource kitchen sets for my grandchildren. I opened up the sets without the kiddos here, so that I could check everything out. I placed the bread in the toaster, and was amazed at how it popped right up like a real toaster. Then I tried a second time, and "pop" I head something happen inside the toaster and the spring-load mechanism must've broken. I can hear (and see) some little part loose inside now. If I could I would return the whole set for a refund or exchange, but I really need the other food items now. I wish there was a way to just get a replacement toaster, as the rest of the food is nicely made!! I've always been willing to buy Learning Resources toys for a higher price than other brands because the quality made it worth it. In this instance, the quality was definitely lacking.

Very Nice!

Lovely set of dishes and food. Only negatives are that the toaster broke after the very first try and the "whole" egg is very difficult (even for an adult!) to break open.

Brilliant for interactin

I bought this to go with my grandson's kitchen. He plays with it every day making his mum and dad breakfast. The items are durable and fun. I will certainly get him more.

Good quality and good variety of foods

Bought for my daughter for her second birthday. She really enjoys playing with it. It's high quality and feels really nice in hand. Everything is a good size for kids. Good selection of food. The egg barely fits in the shell, but that's alright because it's in the frying pan most of the time. The waffles and strawberry are in two parts, stuck together with velcro, so kids can pretend to cut the food in half, but the velcro came off pretty quickly. Not a big deal to me or my kids. The toaster is awesome. My son had a lot of fun "shooting" the toast out at people. Definitely recommend this if you are looking for play food.

Awesome!

Hands down, best playfood for kids these days. My 2.5 yr old loves it. Only complaint is the toaster. It's a poor design as the spring pieces continuously come apart inside the toaster, so the toast doesn't pop. Otherwise everything else is fantastic.

Cute product, good value

These toy pieces are beautifully made. They are more expensive than those I got from Wal-Mart (120 pcs for $10), but the quality is beyond compare. The toaster is fun, even my 16 mos old little one has fun playing with it. I will definitely look at other products from this brand from now on. I did notice the actual fry pan is not RED as shown in the picture, which is OK.
