The good: - They look nice
These are comfy and attractive hiking shoes. When I first received the shoes, I was worried they were too narrow (my feet are a little on the wide side). But within the day, my feet got used to the shoe... or the shoe got used to my feet. The good: - They look nice. Very earthy and hike-y. - Good quality. Tight, strong stitching. After a month or so, no loose or flappy bits. - Comfortable. I could definitely wear them all day. No groaning when kicking them off at the end of a long day. (Well no more groaning than normal) The not-quite-as-good: - Feet seem to slide around in the shoes a little bit. I haven't had my foot measured in a while (still going through life thinking I'm a 10.5 wide). The shoes seemed to fit well. But after some extended trekking or walking the hilly streets, I get the slight feeling of my foot not getting a lot of traction within the shoe. Which could be due to... - The laces do not tie very tight. It could be the location of the lace hooks or the thickness of the tongue or my puny arms, but the laces never seem to really set firm. As soon as I begin to tie, the laces take on some slack. And if I don't tie a double knot, the laces will eventually be dragging through puddles in a couple hours. Overall: These shoes look the part: woodsy and rugged. People might accidentally mistake you for an outdoorsman and not the Netflix binge-watcher that you truly are. They are quite comfortable and definitely good for wearing around the house or casual strolls. For more serious hiking, I would recommend having a friend or your mother tie your shoes for you.

Good Shoe/Hiker BUT Tread Wears Fast
This was a good shoe, but the tread wears fast and the tread is hollow. This makes it a softer shoe, but when you wear a little into the tread, it creates a hole and leaks. I wear these most days and only lasted 3 months. I am hard on shoes. I bought another pair to give it another try just in case I had a bad set. I will let your know.

Shocked
I had to experiment with the size until I found what fit me by this manufacture. I liked the quality and once I found what size to order, I bought shoes, hiking boots and full size boots. I will compare them to Columbia for instance - BUT at 1/2 the price. Just can't beat that. I guess Columbia has to pay for all there advertising in order to make a profit. I had never heard of these guys and am way impressed. Only time will tell how long they will last, but if they do, they have won me over for many future footwear purchases.

Very good price/performance
I am not an extreme sports person, just an elderly guy who wants to feel comfortable for an off-the-beaten-path walk. I don't plan to wade into the nearest creek to see if I can catch a fish. So, I was shopping for a well-made shoe with an appearance that would not shock folks when worn to go shopping, dining or to a local town meeting. With all of that, I don't expect to spend 3-figures for an upgraded tennis-shoe. I choose this brand from the web site and have been pleased with my selection. I believe I own a good shoe at a reasonable price.

Size confusion
I tried their size 8 WIDE, 8.5 WIDE and 9 WIDE and feel almost no difference among them, in both length and width. It's perfect for me to wear 8 WIDE, Nike, but their 9 WIDE is still a little tight in WIDE for my right feet. BTW, I have different length of shoelace with the pair of my 9 WIDE now -- I means I received 9 WIDE with different length of shoelace in a pair.

Northside Men's Snohomish Low Waterproof Hiking Shoe usefulness
I would not recommend this shoe/boot for hiking. It is not very comfortable for me. Scratchy and hard inside even with thick socks and not very cushionable. I wear them mostly for walking my dog and working around the house.

These have good treads and should provide him with traction as well ...
Got these for my son after looking around for some decent hiking shoes. His feet are growing, so the higher priced premium brands were out of the question. These have good treads and should provide him with traction as well as dry feet. I cannot speak to how solid they are or how they stand up to wear and tear. I'll update after the season if I remember, but don't hold your breath.

don't fit properly - hurt feet and started leaking after a year
Rarely wore them and rarely hiked in them as they actually hurt my feet but even with that after about a year or so one of the shoes started to leak inside. I hope they improve their design and make them more sturdy.

Everything is about appearance; not really a hiking pair of shoes
Pro: - The Look - Waterproof for the bottom part - Wide form (Have the arch for people with large feet) - Price - Lace design which permits to control betterly than average the tightening Con: - Totally not adapted to hiking, the sole can't even stand to a tree branch on the ground. By example, in my case the sole was pierced while I was simply walking by a basic mini broken branch. So after only 3 weeks my shoes is scrap. - Feet are getting wet because the design isn't made to make feet breath, so once again not adapted for hiking. That's a basic for hiking. - Feel fragile Summary: That pair of shoes is purely for aesthetics. So if you buy this thinking doing serious hiking with your family, be aware these are not what you are seeking. I would instead categorize these as casual street shoes.
