Good jig.
I debated between and overall three or four rating. The jig is easy to use and accurate. I am happy with the purchase. Do yourself a favor and discard the enclosed bit and purchase a carbide bit. You will need to remove and save the collar. The bit that came with the jig worked well for two to three hinges. By the time I attempted to rout the sixth hinge the bit was incredibly dull and the shank broke off in my router.

MAKES THE TASK ACCURATE
This product made it so much easier to install our side garage door that was blown off during Hurricane Ian. The storm took the door frame with it and this made for such an accurate job.

It works....
Bought this as a replacement for my first one that finally broke. Good for the occasion door work, I keep it in my truck box. As others have said it's plastic which sometimes flexes while using the router. The little nails to hold the template in place doesn't work well. Like others have said, I use screws to hold it in place. You'd think that after all these years, PC would improve the design and make it a little more heavy duty or at least change how it attaches to the door. There are other templates out on the market, I'm just used to this one and made my own modifications.

It's okay
I'm a professional remodeling contractor who just finished a job replacing 6 hollow core interior doors with new solid core raised panel doors, installed into the existing jambs. As prehung doors are far more common these days I don't often do my own hinge mortising and lockset boring but this job required it, and while routing hinges freehand to marks scribed with an awl or blade works, the mortise never turns out as clean as if using a jig. So for the little I encounter this kind of work, this jig seemed reasonable and affordable. Now that I've had a chance to play with it I'll share some observations. If you're using it to route both jamb mortises and door mortises then install the stop molding afterward you'll be okay but if you're trying to match existing jamb mortises it can be challenging. For example, if an existing jamb mortise only goes within 5/16" of the stop molding you'll probably want your door mortise to be about 1/4" from the door edge, leaving 1/16" of gap for the door edge to swing. Setting this jig up for a 1 3/8" door will automatically cut the hinge mortise within about 1/16" of the door edge, in this scenario leaving 1/4" of gap between the door and the stop molding once the door is hung. That's way too much and the jig isn't set up to be adjustable for more than standard door and hinge sizes so your choice is to move the stop molding or not use the pins that dictate how close to the door edge your mortise will be. I tried setting it up using a square on the door and the short side of the jig so the cut would be square and the depth where I wanted it. You can do it but it kind'a takes three hands and really slows things down. One could consider using shims between the door and pins to reduce its mortise cut depth but that just seems like a lot of screwing around for what you're trying to achieve. My point is it's adjustable for different door sizes but has its own idea of what the depth of mortise should be, and that isn't adjustable to accommodate an existing situation. Other observations are similar to other reviews. The high speed steel bit is junk and PC gets $30 for its carbide replacement. Duplex head nails are stupid. I drilled my own holes in the plastic for 1" screws to secure it in place during use. Since the jig is designed to be placed on a center line of where the hinges sit rather than top and bottom dimensions I used a small square to scribe a line in the plastic between the two center line indicators, making it much easier to use and see. I'll also add a center-finding 6" scale to the bag this will live in with its various loose parts. That should make it easier and more accurate for finding the center line of jamb side hinges. If you've ever done this kind of work you know even when hinges are factory mortised on prehung doors, you can pull the pins, take the door off and when its reinstalled hinge alignment can put up a fight so accuracy is ultra important. For the money it's okay but after making modifications I'll end up spending another $40 on a bit and scale. Ultimately I just wish it were more adjustable. Update: I ended up cutting four 1" x14" strips of .05" thick plastic to use as shim material between the pins and door to compensate for the adjustment issue described above. These are just barely under 1/16" thick each so using as many as necessary should provide adequate adjustment in most situations. While not ideal it's a cheap and easy solution.

Buy it
Bye bye hammer and crappie chisel. Been hand-crafting this sort of solution for doors for years. Never again. THIS is the right tool for the job. Read about similar products. Paid a little up for this particular one. Premo choice!

The router bit that comes in the kit is junk
I bought this to route the hinge areas on a built from scratch french door frame because the installer didn't install the door properly 5 years ago and the frame rotted out because it wasn't painted. As others have said the router bit is a P.O.S., the Ryobi bit that comes with their door hinge template is much better than the one that comes with this kit. After getting everything measured (3 times just to make sure) and clamping the template in place I started routing out the first hinge location with my 18V Ryobi trim router, I quickly found out that it was the wrong tool for the job, so I grabbed my variable speed Dewalt plunge router and attempted to finish the first of 6 hinge cut outs, at half speed the router bit that came with the template was fried and no longer usable, so I grabbed the Ryobi bit and finished the job without any further problems. While this kit is at a good price point, do yourself a favor and add a good quality 1/4" router bit to the cart so when it arrives you'll have everything needed to do a good job the first time, and you won't have to stop in the middle of the job and run to Lowes or Home Depot to buy a new router bit because you tried to save some money by not getting one when you ordered this template kit.

No good for UK market
Don’t buy if your in the UK, it will NOT adjust to the correct width for uk hinges EG: 20mm. Wasted my money and time. Took two weeks to arrive. Plastic packaging it came in was destroyed trying to remove the product, so cannot return. And I don’t like the idea of having to nail it to my hard wood doors leaving two holes next to every hinge! Very Disappointed

Not impressed
I won't be using this jig due to the fact that unless I have read the instructions wrong, to keep it in situ while you cut you need to NAIL IT to the door! Surely that can't be right? Why would you want to create nail holes in the door? I going to buy a Ryobi jig instead. Thank you

Garbage router bit
The jig itself is very easy to use and for the price it’s worth the money. The router bit that’s included in the kit on the other hand is absolute garbage. Instantly started smoking as soon as I touched it to a MDF jamb and by the second hinge it’s smoking so bad I had to open doors/windows to air out all the smoke. I was going slow and still rolling smoke. I highly suggest buying a good router bit if you are thinking of picking up this jig.
