Extra layer and support for winter boots

Warmth and comfort

Five days of walking about 5 miles a day in 20 degree temps. Warm and comfortable. Make certain that your shoe or boot can accommodate both an both a thick insole and winter socks.

Great arch support; a little thicker than expected.

It's just mind boggling that there doesn't appear to be a shoe made with anything in the form of arch support. I have Powerstep insoles in all of my shoes so when I got a new pair of Merrell hikers I threw my Powersteps in and put the stock footbed on top but the combination was way too thick. My heel felt like it was slipping out of the shoe just walking. So, I had to find an insole that had some padding but was still thinner than the combination I just tried. I chose these wool insoles because I felt they would wear really well. Better than the foam padded Powerstep insoles that get chewed up fairly easily. These are still just slightly too thick but I think they'll work.

Best inserts yet

Have tried a lot of inserts. The cushioning usually wears thin in about a month. So far the wool is staying strong. Wool is very comfortable in cold or hot weather. Expensive but definitely worth the extra money. Powersteps are all good and these are the best.

comfy wool for your bare (or socked) feet

Just got these, for some reason I managed to get them for $7 - guess that was a one-time error in the system! Now I wish I'd bought more at that price! For $40, though, not sure if I would say they are a great value or not, as I didn't look at other insoles at that price-point. Since I just got them, can't say how they will hold up over time. What I can say right now is that they are fairly sturdy and very comfortable (even barefoot) in my shoes. I would say they are a little smaller than expected because I bought the size 12-13.5 but they fit quite will in my size 12 shoes without trimming them at all -- so I would order a size up if you're on in between sizes.
