Saved my Fish, Tank, and Time!
I bought a 5.5 gallon aquarium and a goldfish - before doing the research to find out what kind of tank a goldfish actually requires. Well, for those of you who aren't aware, that size of tank is entirely too small for a goldfish, as they produce high amounts of ammonia, which will then turn into nitrite and eventually nitrate (not to mention that the tank is just too small to actually cycle on its own). I monitored the water daily, and was in despair when I eventually saw the levels of toxins creeping up. I used API's AmmoChips as soon as I found out about them, but the nitrite and nitrate levels were still creeping up. After doing some research, I stumbled upon this item - the Seachem Denitrate - and compared it to other items that I might use to save my fish from being poisoned to death. This product was the only one I saw that I could pour into a filter media bag and place directly into my filter - which was important to me, as I had little money and didn't want to spend more on a filter that could handle those other products. I paired 2 tblsp. of the Seachem Denitrate with 2 tblsp. of the AmmoChips (for some extra ammonia-removing oomph, though the Seachem says it also removes ammonia - I wanted to be safe!), and 4 days later, my nitrites and nitrates went down to a managable level. A month later, my nitrites are at 0.0ppm, my nitrates are at 5.0ppm, and my ammonia is at 0.25ppm (it's getting time for me to change the water, though). This product has saved my fish from a slow, painful death and I am so extremely pleased that I bought this!

It works
I have a small 12 gallon saltwater tank with 2 fish, a starfish & a sea urchin which I'm told is to many fish for a tank that size! And they are right my nitrates were in the High 40 range in the red color on the test kit. I tired doing water changes like ever 4 days and I could Not get it under 40. After researching what I can do to get nitrates down I bought a canister filter and de*nitrate and 3 weeks later my nitrates are now in the 20 range (orange color on the test kit)it has to be the de*nitrates because water changes wasn't doing it and I hadn't change anything else except add canister filter & de*nitrates. I hope with more time my nits will go down even more becasue it says take 4 to 6 weeks before you see a change, well I saw it in 3 weeks, I'm hoping in 6 weeks to have zero nitrates. Best part it says never change it!! So it's cheap! And now I only do a water change ever 3 weeks, since my nits are staying in low orange 20 range.

Denitrate is the best
I've been using this product for my 30 and 10 gal aquariums for some time and I can't say enough about it. It makes keeping my aquariums clean and my fish very happy. I use this in conjunction with Chemipure Elite and maintenance has been cut more than half. It's well worth the cost in fish longevity and eliminates the need for carbon changes. When changing from carbon to Denitrate, I use half carbon, half carbon because it takes a little time for Denitrate to start working full force. After that, the nitrate levels are gone and you can eliminate carbon and use only Denitrate.Seachem Denitrate 1L

if you need a Nitrate solution... do not loose your time with this product
I have been keeping fish for most of my life (I am in my 50s). If you are serious with Nitrate control, I have 4 current experiments running = First Biohome ultimate in a sump with cichlid (55 gallons, waiting results, not truly convince, after 3 months no positive results on Nitrate, love the concept, but... science is science). Second, wood ship bio-reactor scaled down for my dark water aquarium (55 Gallons) = After 3 months, Nitrate reduction by 20 to 30%. Third, 30 Gallon community tanks, using a 10 gallons sump with water hyacinth. Amazing results, after one week, 30 to 50% of nitrate reduction. WARNING = If you want to test the concept with water hyacinth, do never release this plant out-door, it is an invasive plant = Be responsible, also, you will need a strong full spectrum LED light to keep the plant alive. Last but not least, BCB basket (check it on youtube), pending 3 months mark for bacteria growth, results pending. The Seachem Nitrate media did nothing to any water parameters (3 months/6 months/12 months), not a damn thing. Do not make me wrong, Seachem is a good company, just not this product.

Please try this!
If you are desparate to get your nitrate down and couldn't EVEN IF you did water change already. Please TRY this, THis really works! My tank(60gallon)nitrate was at 25ppm, and after using 3 of them, the nitrate went down in a month. BE patient! My nitrate did not go down the first week, but it eventually did. Also, I recommand you use just a little bit more than the recommanded amount. For example, I use 3 because only two didn't work. I swear. Give it a try... it's probably less expensive than doing a water change. Buy 1 more than the recommanded dose, and try it. Hope this helps.

Very responsive & game changing
Did wonders in changing the nitrate balance in my fish tank.

Patience is the key
My nitrates were stuck at 10ppm and would not budge. Even when I tested 5 seconds after finishing a 30% water change, still 10ppm. I put this into a phosban reactor with a maxijet pump and although it took about 2-3 months to see any results, my nitrates are now down to a beautiful .10 (emphasis on the .).

This product works but only if you get it right.
I've always had problems with nitrates in my tank. It's not overly huge and seems to build quickly regardless of regular maintenance etc. My water change routine was getting pretty drastic in order to keep on top of them to the tune of over 60٪ once a week. Not ideal! Having checked all possible causes and still getting nowhere I decided that building a nitrate reactor was the way to go. It's been a week since my last water change and since the nitrate reactor went into operation using this product. Based on past experiences, a week down the line, my nitrates should be well over 40ppm by now. They're not. A test this morning reveals the nitrates are somewhere between 10 and 20ppm. The reactor is still maturing but already its had a significant effect on the water. This product works, no two ways about it. It is very picky however. It requires a specific flow of water in order for it to do its job. One should bear in mind when purchasing that this product doesn't remove nitrates on its own. It merely serves as a home for the bacteria that do, and if one doesn't create the ideal condition for that bacteria to grow then all you'll have is a reactor full of small porous stones. If the flow is too high or too low, it won't work. If it gets too cold or hot, it won't work. To set up mine I overdosed the reactor with Seachem Stability both before it was installed and continued adding 10ml daily afterwards into the water near the reactor intake for seven days. I created a water flow through the reactor of approximately 128L/h which is around 33GPH (US) above Seachem's recommended minimum flow. I'm still a beginner in the world of fish keeping. But with proper research I got this product to do its job on my first attempt. I must say that if it doesn't work for you, then you've done something wrong.

Didn’t really work
Personally this item didn’t work for me. If you’re looking to reduce nitrate I reccomend “tetra brand nitrate minus”. Bought a bottle at a local pet store and worked way better and efficiently. I just didn’t notice any change when I was using this product.

Easy to use and quick acting.
Had a nitrate problem in my reef tank when my refugium crashed. Had to find a quick solution and these have worked well.

Didn’t really help lower my nitrates, so quite disappointed ????

Does what it claims
Reduced contamination in the tank and there's enough in the pot for three uses. lasts around 3 months per use so good value.
