Still made in America, for now.
I needed a vice (No, not that kind of vice. I have enough of those already). And I absolutely refused to put one on my workbench that was made In China (don't get me started). Before you read any further, understand that this vise was, in fact, made in the USA. If this is something that's not important to you, don't bother reading any further. I was a little confused about the origin of my vice when I got it. If you look closely at the photo, you'll see "USA" on the side of the vise. Yet, "USA" does not appear on the one I received. However, it is marked "Holland, Michigan". It's sad (and not uncommon), that some companies purposely deceive consumers, by stamping or marking their products with the location of their home office in America. This gives the impression that the product was made in the USA. But do a little investigating, and you'll discover that in many cases, the product itself was actually made in China (or somewhere else overseas). I needed to be 100% sure that the vice I received was made in America. I called Yost, and was actually able to speak to a human being. The guy I spoke with (who by the way, was very nice and helpful), told me that the vise I received was definitely made in Holland, Michigan. He further told me that Yost changed the lettering on this vice from vertical to horizontal. Indeed, the vice that I received has the lettering positioned horizontally along the side. However, the photo at Amazon shows the lettering in a vertical position. When the orientation of the lettering was changed, "USA" was left off for whatever reason (lack of space, maybe?). OK. Now I understand. But I still wish that Yost had marked "USA" somewhere on the vise. This is especially important to know, because Yost does have some of their less expensive vises made in China. Dear Yost: Please make the origin of your products very, very, clear. So enough about all that. What about the vise itself? The good: 1. It's quite heavy, and appears to be well made (I like that). 2. Mine arrived in good shape (no damage or chipped paint). 3. The jaws line up properly. 4. The movement is smooth. 5. It has two (2) lockdown levers to keep it from rotating (loosen the levers when you're ready to rotate) 6. Replaceable jaws and other parts are available if needed. 7. Made in the United States of America. The Bad: None so far. If I take care of it, I'm sure that it'll outlast me. And no, I'm not going to list the price of this vice as a negative. American made products cost more. And I appreciate having the option of purchasing a well-made vice made in this country. Final thoughts: If you don't care where something is made, I'm sure I've bored you to death with this issue. Go to Home Depot or Lowe's. They offer Chinese made vices that cost much less, and I'm sure they'll get the job done for most people. Another option is to buy a Yost vice made in China. It's my understanding that some of their vices that used to be made in America, have since been replaced with Chinese made models. In a few years, it might not even be possible to buy an American made Yost vise. I suppose it all depends on whether or not there are enough Americans who even care where something is made; and whether they're willing to pay more for quality products made in the USA. 06-12-2019: Before purchasing this vice, please call Yost to verify the country of origin. Mine was made in the USA. But there's a possibility that this is no longer true.

Deceiving.
I never used this. Never took it out of the box. I specifically looked for a vice made in America. And this vices description implies it is. when opening the shipping box you find out it’s made in Taiwan. Returned

NICE BUT CLUNKY ROTATION
This is a beautifully made little vise that I'm sure my great-grandchildren will inherit. For my purposes there is one glitch--pivoting it requires a lot of turns of the securing screws before it can be rotated. This is because of the deep, coarse teeth on the vise and mounting plate. I can see this working on some massive industrial vise but here it is unrefined and annoying. If you seldom have to rotate it, you're fine, but otherwise it is a pain in the butt. I solved this by taking the whole thing apart and grinding all the teeth down a lot. Some grease and things are great.

Buy once, cry once - A lifetime tool that will repay itself many times over
Great vise. I cross shopped many models, including Wilton, before I purchased this in 2011. The clamping force is impressive, and I can even use it as a press for some smaller items. I attribute this to the high quality materials of the vise and I honestly don't believe a common import would have held up to the abuse I've given it. Over the years I've had a set of plain, smooth jaws made as I often work with aluminum and the cross-hatched jaws it comes with are too aggressive for the soft metal. The ability to rotate the vise is nice if you need it, but it isn't very refined. I see Yost is now off-shoring some of their products, but this is still advertised as Made in the USA. Buy a high quality vise and it will last many lifetimes. They are doing a good job staying competitive on price, in the seven years since I purchased this they have lower the price $40.

Worth Every Penny
This vise is way beyond what the average guy needs, but I wanted something fairly large that would last nearly forever and be made in the states. My prior vises were a 4" Chinese vise that cost all of $70 and a '40's Columbian that has seen better days (which I still have.) My first choice was a Wilton Machinist's Vise (the bullet style type), but something about Yost hooked me. I don't recall exactly what (and I'm sure I'd have been just as happy with the Wilton), but this vise has been an excellent tool and I'm really happy with its performance. It's very well made and has a generous amount of throat space. Function is smooth as glass.

Not made in USA....please update info on this page
The vise is fine, but I bought it because I want to support USA steel companies. The yost site clearly states made in Taiwan.

This is the vise you need.
Initial impressions: this was with every penny I paid for it. Will hopefully be the last vise I ever need. It’s built that well.
