A big step up from 20 year old Tiger

The switch to a 3 cup cooker from a larger 5 cup has gone well. First of all, we never required that much rice and the elephant brand cookers were always considered the best when we lived in Japan. Since switching to brown rice, the old Tiger just couldn't master it. It came out rather hard, no matter what was tried. It seems like it needs a longer cooking time - something the old Tiger couldn't manage. Of course, the stainless steel wrap on the Zojirushi is very attractive and its smaller size makes it a better fit in the cupboard. Another welcome feature seems to be the heavier gauge metal used in the cooking vessel. In fact, the entire build of this cooker seems much studier. The only downside might be its longevity. The Tiger brand was made in Japan - something that really matters. The "Zo" is made in China, but we're hoping that someone from Japan is there to monitor quality.

Really good rice cooker

I've been debating upgrading my cheap, giant Costco rice cooker for a while, and I'm glad I finally did. This simply makes a better pot of rice. It's very compact and easy to use, looks great, and again, makes great rice. My old rice cooker made rice for dinner in about 20-30 minutes, and this takes closer to an hour, but the extra time is well worth it. Not a negative, just something to be aware of. I would buy it again and recommend it without reservations.

Perfect

I’m a techie, a gadget nerd and very active in the kitchen. It would be very hard for kitchen electronics to impress me. This machine is awesome. Looks good, easy to understand and operate, easy to clean. Uses my favorite display technology - LCD. Most importantly, use the dead simple one cup measuring device for the rice, fill with water to the line (which is engraved in the liner), close the lid, verify the correct rice type, hit start and forget it. Perfect rice every time. It even has a GABA brown rice cycle. If this thing would clean up the kitchen after I’m done I would give it 6 stars.

Beautiful but too small

It looks very nice from the outside, but sadly it's a bit too small for our family of 4 since it's only 3 cups of uncooked rice. It was my fault as I assumed this was the 5 cups one.

beyond amazing

This is the best rice cooker I have ever used. Used my roommates for years (exact model). When he moved out and took it with him, I had to get the same unit for myself. It's so easy to use that anyone can make great rice and more with it. Haven't ever used the Gaba brown rice option, but due to the health benefits, that is my next goal. =)

Why did I wait so long?

I have cooked rice manually in a pot on the stove for years. Recently, I started using the rice cooker function on my Instant-pot, which doesn’t really work that well as you end up with sticky, stuck, and maybe burnt rice at the bottom if you don’t get the pan out fast enough. You have to use the manual feature to do it the right way. I saw a funny video by Uncle Roger on to how to cook rice properly. So I broke down and bought this particular rice cooker, based on reviews outside of Amazon, and it is awesome! Set it and walk away. Rice comes out fluffy and you can keep it warm in the cooker for a very long time, a very nice feature. Zojirushi is an excellent company as I’ve had their bread maker for years.

Expensive but high quality.

While expensive for a rice cooker it's extremely well built and the cooked rice has a noticeable improvement in texture compared to the $15 rice cookers we're all familiar with. In my opinion as long as you cook rice 2-3 times or more per week this is well worth the cost.

Simply the best bang for your buck! Yummy

This is one of the entry level of Zojirushi rice cooker, but not the cheapest. At the time of this review the price brand is $170 (when in stock) and I got this one from the warehouse deals (Used - Acceptable state) for $115. I’ve been using really cheap rice cooker since I’m an adult and been introduced to it by friends. At the time I was in awe about this (I thought) fancy appliance. And one day, I heard about Japanese rice cookers. And how much people were loving them. I thought I was covered with mine, but still was curious to experience and see if these Japanese counterpart were that exceptional. It took me years and a Covid pandemic to really decide to “invest”. And damn, I am glad I did! More about this model. It’s made in China and not Japan. You have to look for either older models or more expensive new ones if you really want one Japan made one. That being said, I’m not disappointed by the quality of the ensemble. It’s pretty sturdy, the inner bowl is thick and heavy and the rice cooker looks great. Now, speaking of the rice. I’ve tried to make white rice and brown rice (with the GABA setting) It takes longer than any other rice cooker. But, it’s so worth it. You get such a perfect rice at the end. Every grain is cooked perfectly, no matter where they are in the bowl. No grain sticks at the bottom ! The GABA brown rice takes 2 hours to precook the rice plus probably 1h20 minutes to really cook the rice. But it’s so good at the end. It’s worth every cent and minute spent to cook it. I just changed my habit, and use the internal timer, to make sure my rice is cooked and ready at the time I need it to be cooked. This way, I wash my rice, put the water, set my desired time, and just have to forget about it. Then, once the rice is cooked, it plays its melody. And you know you’re in for a treat. My last words will be, go ahead, we live once. It’s one of my favorite appliance.

Perfect rice, worth the money!

I have been hesitant to invest in a quality rice cooker due to the price as I don't eat rice often. My previous ones (black and decker, Hamilton beach) had their coating wear down and cooked rice unevenly, you had to really experiment to find the best ratios and it'd be mushy. This rice cooker is compact, portable, easy to use and makes perfect rice! Yes, it takes almost an hour but I didn't find that a problem. I'm so happy with the quality of this cooker it was well worth the money. I live alone and leave it on keep warm for a few days, rice remains fresh and doesn't dry out. A breeze to clean.

Great rice cooker

This is about as close to a real rice cooker as you will find on the American market... You will have to import something from Asia to get better. By Japanese standards, this is a bit basic, but it makes good rice. The non stick coating has held up very well... After well over 100 uses, it's still like new... The only thing that hasn't held up well is inside of the removable lid... The side exposed to food is fine, but the otherside is not fully anodized, so the aluminum has oxidized... It's probably because we wash it in the dishwasher... It's unsightly, but does not affect functionality, or come into contact with the food... You also can't see it unless you take the lid apart, Sonora really not a big deal.

Zojirushi, the best rice cooker with 5 stars.

I used to have the old Zojirushi for long time, later, then noticed the top wiring was cut and the rice not 100% good as before, then I bought the cheap one, Hamilton Beach, it's not good at all, but cheap (never buy this!). I have received my Zojirushi today, I have done the test with just one cup of white rice (jasmin), it took 60 min, and the rice so nice and gives me more than expected, so it wants me to eat more and more. I have a question to the seller: Can it be used to keep warm the sweet rice? Overall, Zojirushi rice cooker is the must to buy. I have done my experiment, and have found out the option "Quick" is very useful to cook the white rice in the short time (39 min.) and the water just below the line is OK. As for the sticky rice or the sweet rice, I soak the rice for a while then just use this option with no water, if we just clean the rice and cook, very little water to be added. Do your own experiment then you will know.
