Accurate and Durable Scale
While I rarely post reviews, I decided to review my EatSmart scale after almost three years of use, due to its great performance. There are a couple interesting quirks that should be mentioned as well. So far I have experienced zero problems with it. I have made comparison "weigh-ins" whenever going to my doctor's office (weighing right before my appointment, wearing same clothes/wallet/phone) and this scale tracks with the very expensive and presumably accurate professional model every time. As far as durability goes, well it has always worked. When putting it away I lay it against the wall in a closet and it has been knocked over onto vinyl flooring a number of times without a hiccup or scratch. I have yet to replace the original batteries, though I will do so soon for preventative measure. Repeatability: One odd quirk it has is it repeats the EXACT same measurement between short interval weigh-ins. In other words, if you were to place it on the floor, calibrate it, keep it in the same place on the floor, and step on it for a reading multiple times within a short time period it appears to use a logarithm to determine this and it will repeat the same exact weight each time. Specifically, the display will bounce back and forth for a few seconds while it is apparently settling in on a final weight value, then the display will show a result which exactly matches the previous results. It displays in 0.2 pound increments; I guarantee you this or any ~$40 scale is not that precise. So to experiment, I've tried getting back on the scale holding, say, something that weighs about 0.5 pound in my hand and I've repeatably gotten this phenomenon to happen. Even though I had just "gained a half pound" the scale would report the last value. I understand this has been programmed as to make people feel the scale is "very accurate" and repeatable, but to me it's gimmicky. I expect a scale at this price point to have real world inaccuracies and I don't like data being dumbed down. This issue doesn't take away from my five star rating because I feel the first reading is trustworthy anyway. I have experimented by putting the scale away on its edge (to force need for a calibration) and then setting it up as closely to where it was placed on the floor before, then calibrating and weighing -- in these cases it will sometimes read a slightly different value, but still close to the original. This tells me that it uses some combination of repositioning/level/calibration to reset the "display the exact same weight if a similar weight gets on the scale again in a short time span" algorithm. Floor placement: I don't care if my scale is highly accurate. +/- 0.5 pound is fine for my purposes. I do, however, want it to display repeatable results without glitches. So far it has done this so I'm happy. One thing that is critical, and probably the main reason for the negative reviews claiming unrepeatable results, has to do with floor placement. Even a flat looking wood or concrete floor can have dips and peaks which can throw this scale off. If the surface is not level then accuracy can only get worse. Factor in inconsistent surfaces, compress-ability of carpet, or the unevenness of contiguous tiles and you see where I'm headed. So I always place the scale within the same four tiles (6" square tile) and try to center it within them as best as possible. This allows consistency between measurements. Even if each measurement is slightly inaccurate compared to the true weight, they show consistently accurate increases or decreases over time, which I think is what most of us are looking for. Who needs to know if he is exactly 180.2 pounds at 7:15am on Tuesday? What would it matter if he was actually 180.6 pounds at that moment? As long as the scale consistently reports measurements over time that 0.4 pound offset would never matter to most people in the real world, except perhaps to boxers and the like who need to weigh in using another standardized scale for their occupation... they would not be relying on an inexpensive floor scale anyway. I'm going to lengths here to illustrate my point because *where* you place the scale can create up to several pounds of "offset" in the results, even if you always place it exactly in the same place. This is going to be a problem for any floor scale, especially one which employs four pressure sensors such as this any most other comparable digital scales. I had tested and read up extensively on different types of affordable floor scales before buying this one. This EatSmart scale clearly outperforms the ones I've trialed. Many of the negative reviews seem to indicate they didn't understand the limitations I mentioned above.

Originally disappointed, now impressed . . . . see update!
. . . . in light of all the glowing reviews read, and based on other purchasers' experience I purchased this product. Looks good, very wide - as advertised, but disappointingly inconsistent. Followed all instructions, to the letter, but never managed to get it to weigh the same twice. Both my husband and I tried, and both got varying weights. Not helpful when embarking on a weight reduction regime, so it is unfortunately having to go back. Thank goodness Amazon's return system is so user-friendly. Update August 1st 2010 I was somewhat surprised to receive an email response from the Vice President of EatSmart Products within about 20 minutes of the posting the above. He assured me I must have received a lemon (his words), which apparently happens from time to time. He also went on to say, and I quote, "I was hoping to get you a replacement immediately under our warranty program. Its the least we can do after putting a defective product in your hands." I was duly impressed and told him so in my responding email. However, to date I have not received a replacement, nor do I now expect/want one to arrive. Having re-read other reviews of this and other EatSmart models, I believe this model is, in fact, a lemon. Other models seem to be consistently accurate, whereas, it appears, this particular model is not. I am now looking elsewhere for a consistent and accurate scale. Further update August 4th 2010 Today I received an unexpected package via FedEx. I had duly returned my 'lemon' and received a refund. I thought that was the end of the story. Not so! A new scale from EatSmart Products, with a letter from the Vice President, apologizing for the lemon and enclosing a new scale, which, he informed me, has been thoroughly tested for accuracy. This accuracy I can confirm. Both my husband and I tested, and re-tested, and there was never a variation. I even tested it with one of my cats - spot on each time. EatSmart clearly stand by their products, recognise there are occasional flaws, and quickly correct the situation. I am a very impressed and happy customer. Obviously a company which values their name and reputation, and rightly so. Further update: September 23rd 2013 In case anyone is interested, my scale still gives accurate readings, day after day! Yet another update: 11th June 2015 - moved to the UK, with my scale, which is still going strong, and still on the original batteries! Such a great scale! Further update! 13th November 2017 - still going strong, still a great scale! . . . . And another update - 19th June 2019 - I find it hard to believe I have had this scale almost 9 years! Everyone still hops on every day, and it carries on giving accurate results.

I really like it. Accurate, sleek, wide enough. Nice.

Display stays lit for a hot minute
This is accurate and easy to read. For those of us who can't see our toes... It measures quickly and the display stay lit long enough for you to step off and look down to see it. My husband's size 13 wide feet easily fit on the large scale. Would recommend to friends.

Does what it needs to
Was looking for a scale to get straight to the point of a scale which is measuring your weight with or without socks/shoes have bought some in the past where you need a app to be able to use it or need to take your shoes off to read your BMI water muscle etc this one does not do that but does read weight obviously and that’s just what I was looking for really like it you get on and reads your weight clearly have another scale that’s more old school and weighted my self on both and it seems to be accurate just incase there’s doubts .

Great scale
I have only just received the scale today so it is too early to tell accuracy or durability but my first impressions are good. The scale looks really nice and the size is perfect. I am a big guy so the extra couple of inches in width is much appreciated. The display is bright and large enough to easily read. I will have to wait and see what the accuracy is like, but out of the box it is within a pound of my Doctors scale. Overall I am very happy with my purchase, I think it is good value for the dollar. It has no fancy bells or whistles, it is just a dam nice scale. I will update later if I find problem with it, but for now I am happy.

something wrong!
So this scale is very well made, but it has some sort of glitch. If you just step on it (as per instructions,) the scale will weight you 2.5 kilos more than your actual weight. So, you must first step on it, wait a few seconds, then step down, wait until it shows a "C" (for cancel I assume,) then wait till the 2 zeros appear (00) and then step back on it. The scale will now display the right weight. Not sure what the problem is. (UPDATE). Problem has been easily resolved. I called the company, David there, calmly and professionally explained how to reset the unit. So what you need to do (if you are having my same issue,) is remove both the batteries. Place the scale on a hard surface. step on it for 10 seconds. step-off and reinsert the batteries. and voila` it's re-calibrated. Now the unit will automatically weigh you when you step on it. It works great.

Not accurate and faulty.
I got this because of the good reviews. Definitely NOT my experience. I wanted to replace my Etekcity but found this one even more inaccurate. It jumps ahead by 0.4lbs sometimes. Also the blinking number doesn't freeze sometimes so I have to go back on the scale and measure again. It's faulty and not accurate I will be returning this.

Broken on day one and there’s a no return policy
I order this scale and it arrived on May 8. I opened it, inserted batteries and it didnt work. Okay, buy some batteries - still doesn’t work. Tried a 3rd set of batteries and it still doesn’t work. Phoned the manufacturer and they said go through Amazon. Amazon states there’s no refund on this item. Now I’m stuck with a broken scale with no option to replace or get a refund. This is my first experience with a scam on Amazon!

Questionable Accuracy
The setting in that I use this scale is a hockey academy. I will have a team of 21 athletes come into the gym and I need to weigh them quickly. This scale is fantastic for that and there is no delay between weigh-ins for different individuals. When one person steps off the next can step on. I can get through 21 people in 2 minutes. However, I've had some trouble with the accuracy of athletes who are close in weight. Say I have 2-4 athletes who are all similar weights weigh one after the next. The scale will read the same weight for all of them. Maybe it's a random chance, but this has happened many times. An example, I have 3 athletes who all weigh around 165lb, and they weigh in one after the next. I will get 3 weights that are identical to one another. But, if I have someone who weights 130lb weight themselves between the 165lb individuals, I can get varying results for the 165lb individuals (165.2, 166.6, 164.4) leading me to believe that the variation in numbers is more accurate. Do what you want with that information, but I've had some trouble trusting the reliability of the weights that are shown at times.
