Good luck with that carafe
There are several things I like about this coffee maker. It is nice looking. The display is large and bright, making it much easier to read than any we've had before. The buttons are also large and easy to read and you have separate buttons for separate features, unlike other brands where you have to run through options using a mode type of button. The operation to brew, set clocks, etc., is very straightforward and easy. It brews a decent cup of coffee, though even on bold it is not as bold as previous coffee makers produced. I like strong cup of coffee. It's smaller than we need (10 cups) but we work around that. After dh brews the pot in the morning and fills he thermal cup, he adds more water and so we can get the 12 cups we're accustomed to. Those get it to three stars. The carafe is a nightmare, IMO. Mind you it keeps it warm as it should. But the design of the carafe leaves much to be desired. The lid removes by rotating it counter clockwise. Nice that it's removeable. When the coffee brews it runs through the button opening on the lid into the carafe, but not directly into the pot. There is a compartment within the lid that has a small opening toward the carafe handle and that's where the coffee exits. It is impossible to clean that, so I'm sure oils will be building up over time. When you go to pour the first cup and the carafe is rather full, if you tip the carafe up too high, the coffee will enter that opening in the lid and pour out of the button on top. It doesn't necessarily make it into your cup when that happens. We work around by pouring over the sink. Because of the way the interior of the carafe is made, you will end up having to almost upend the carafe completely - as in hold it almost completely upside down - to get the last of the coffee out. The carafe itself has a 2.5" diameter opening that has sharp edges that stick out. These seem to be what locks the rotating lid in place, so I understand the purpose. Unless you have small hands, be very careful if you try to wash this thing out by hand. The edges will tear up your hand. The carafe is deep enough that if you want to wash it by hand, you have to get your entire hand in there. Since we have large hands and dislike pain, we drop a dishrag into the pot and then use a bottle cleaner or other utensil to drag the rag around to clean it. We've had it a week, and so far this seems to be getting it clean. But then comes the rinsing and drying. Because of the way the top of the carafe is made it is impossible to pour all of the water out after rinsing. If washing by hand, you are going to have to put a dishtowel in there and dry it. Leaving it turned upside down in the dish drainer won't take care of it. There will still be about 1/4 teaspoon of water in there. Again, you risk tearing your hand up to dry it, so again, we drop a towel in there and move it around with a utensil. The filter is an angled one, rather than one with a flat bottom. We grind our own coffee. Rather than risk dumping coffee grounds into places they don't belong, I stand the filter up in a cup and put the grounds in, then place it within the basket. I've always had flat bottomed filter baskets and I can say I prefer those 100% over this. The lid to the maker is removable in one piece, which may come in handy since there is quite a bit of reside accumulating in the "shower" area after about a week of use. We wipe that area off after every brew cycle, but it's going to need a good scrub anyway. So while I like the maker itself, the carafe is a big NO. It performs as expected to keep the coffee warm. Next time, I'll get a coffee maker without a thermal carafe and we'll purchase a better designed, yet separate, thermal carafe. Downgraded my rating to a 1 because I've become even more dissatisfied than I originally was. I've discovered that in addition to my other issues with this coffee maker: 1. The oils indeed build up in the lid and the only way to clean that area is with a Q tip - every single week I remove a lot of residue. 2. The inside/lining of the carafe is stained. A kitchen scrub brush daily doesn't prevent the build up, vinegar and baking soda have no effect. A white scrubber pad works, but you can't get your hand in there to use it. 3. There seems to be a place in the lid that isn't water tight. There seems to be water that has accumulated within the lid that can't be drained out, but I can hear it when I shake the lid. Don't bother with this coffee maker. Less expensive models that are not aggravating on a daily basis are available for purchase.

Overflow when Brewing DIY - this makes it an excellent coffee maker
EDIT: After about 6 months, my coffee maker began overflowing around the handle near the end of the brew cycle. It didn't matter what kind of coffee, or how much coffee I was making. After observing a few times I determined that there is a problem with the opening where the coffee passes through the lid and into the carafe. This opening faces directly toward the handle and there appears to be just a small space for the coffee to flow through. My thought is that liquid tension builds up at the point and forces the coffee into the gap between the 'thumb lift' on the lid and the carafe. My solution: enlarge the opening in the lid. The plastic is soft and you can do this with a utility knife (carefully and keeping in mind the usual safe practices for cutting with a knife, of course, to avoid injuring yourself). The attached photo shows the result. Since I did this the coffee maker has not overflowed a single time. Be aware, I'm certain this voids the warranty. My trusty Braun KF600 finally bit the dust after 15 years of reliable brewing. Given it's quality and longevity I went looking for another Braun to replace it. Based on a week's use I believe that I've found a worthy successor. This coffee maker feels substantial and looks great. I like that the plastic parts where water and coffee are going to sit are smooth - to me that means it will be easier to keep those parts clear of stains and calcification. It's a neat and compact package that doesn't take up a lot of counter space. Adding water: Some reviewers have reported problems pouring water from the carafe into the reservoir. My solution is to use a measuring cup. Others have also had difficulty with the way water level is marked with a green step indicator inside the reservoir. I agree, it's not as usable as a little window on the side of the coffee maker, but I found it quite visible and not hard to see the water level. It may have helped for Braun to make the numbers black so they are easier to read. The carafe: Some reviewers have mention spills and drips using the carafe. I've found that it pours precisely. On the first pour there is likely to be some coffee still on the top of the lid. I just tilt is slightly and let that coffee run down and into the carafe at the spout. When the carafe is full - say, 8 to 10 cups - it does poor enthusiastically. If you are using a smaller cup you might overshoot if you go fast. Once I got used to the carafe's characteristics I have not had any problem pouring. The opening of the carafe, with the lid off, it quite small. It's not likely you'll get a hand in for washing. You're going to have to use a tool. Coffee flavor and temperature: I typically make 8 cups. Using the same ratio as with the old coffee maker, I am happy with the flavor and smoothness of the coffee. The temperature when fresh brewed seems a bit higher, but comfortable to begin drinking immediately. And the carafe keeps the coffee drinkably hot for a long period of time. 7:00 AM: I made 8 cups of coffee. We drank 4 cups in short order. 11:00 AM: I had another cup, and it seemed nearly as warm as when first brewed. 2:45 PM: Came home after running errands and grabbed another cup. It was noticeably cooler than earlier, but still at the cusp of very warm and hot. Considering that it had been nearly 4 hours with mostly air in the carafe, I call that excellent performance. I'm well pleased with this coffee maker and recommend it with no hesitation to anyone who is looking for a drip coffee maker in this one's price range.

Delicious hot coffee that stays hot for hours in the pot
Makes delicious hot coffee that stays hot for hours in the thermal pot. There are 2 annoying design problems. First, the spout dribbles terribly when you pour out the coffee, second, the 'water tank' placement makes it very awkward to fill. Nonetheless, I love it because of the great coffee it makes.

Function 1-4 cup not working
The engineering of the unit is the first class. Everything is very thoughtful, marks in the water reservoir clearly visible, the carafe holds the temperature (when you pour the hot water inside, the outside walls remain cold), pouring out is accurate with no spilling whatsoever. Some people are telling otherwise. Of course, if you don't press the lever right below your thumb the carafe lid will remain closed and eventually the coffee will find the way out in a bit messy way. But who is trying to exit a room through a closed door? The footprint is small and many other good things, but my wife wanted a thermal carafe with a small capacity because I don't drink coffee. What attracted as to buy this unit was the advertised function of 1-4 cups. The problem is that the coffee here is just lukewarm. We did not make a test for the full capacity. Our old Cuisinart 4 cup coffee maker -450BKC produces hot 2 or 3 cups of very tasty coffee, but the stainless still carafe doesn't keep the temperature long enough. No, we wouldn't recommend this product if you need smaller amounts of coffee. Added on March 19, 2020 We both Bonavita 1500 and coffee is hot at any quantity, all plastic bags have printed text while the Braun had none. Those are indications we received a COUNTERFEIT item from the seller Arora Sales.

Makes great tasting HOT Coffee.
I am impressed with this machine. I will admit i bought it based on past experiences with Braun Coffee makers and this one excels. I wasn't expecting the coffee to turn out so good and HOT. The machine looks very stylish and beeps when the coffee is done brewing. The thermal carafe keeps coffee hot without any burnt coffee taste. I like the white LED clock which is easy to read. I wish the water reservoir was bigger so it was easier to put the water in but no big deal really. It comes with a little water filter but i don't use it. Comes with a scoop and a gold tone filter basket which fits perfectly and does a decent job at minimizing grit while leaving the precious coffee oils intact. I'm glad i bought this coffee maker. It doesn't hurt that the machine is ridiculously good looking. It's like the super model of coffee makers, the kind Derek Zoolander would have in his kitchen.

for patient pourers
great looking unit, coffee tasted great but pouring is a challenge. We had an old Braun thermos unit that did not give us any problems. The new design thermos will spill randomly if you pour too fast and the last cup is almost impossible not to spill. Had to return it due to pouring issues.....

Don’t waste your money
I bought this November 2022, 5 months later it’s broken. Only fills the pot hallway and the remaining water leaks all over your counter top. I’m done with this brand.
