Try this before anything else, and save a lot of potential damage and cost

Had a new leak in a very well-maintained 16 year-old house that would run through the floor under our master tub and into the garage when filling/draining the tub, and rather than panic for an expensive plumber call and diagnosis, I decided to think through it all and read some blogs, check some YouTubes. Determined that the few bucks to try and install this new drain shoe gasket would be well worth it - and am so glad that I did. Gasket arrived as described and quickly, sized exactly as indicated, and the pliability/softness of the material gave me an initial idea that I had done the right thing - the original that I pulled off was not cracked or deteriorated, but just very hard; this was likely, just because of age, why it stopped properly sealing that space between the drain pipe under the tub and the drain fitting itself. Installed the new one just by following a couple of YouTube pro tricks (and used plumber's putty, not silicone, for the best old-school results), took about 10 minutes, and perfect, dry results. Hey, at this point I will change these out in every tub in every home that I own just based on age of the plumbing - you could have minor leaks that don't seep all the way through, but just hang in the inner spaces and dampen your structure, maybe cause mold, attract moisture ants, and every other nightmare that results in thousand$ to repair. Like putting new batteries in a smoke detector - DO IT!

Squishy Foam, Not Hard Rubber

Material has a lot of give, and doesn't seem as durable as hard rubber. May deform/shred if you crank down the basket. I used a hard gasket instead. But it is thick! That may help you if your tub shoe doesn't mate flush with the tub underside. When reassembling, make sure to use teflon on the basket (male) threads, or else water will wick up th3 threads and under this gasket. Use silicone, not putty if your pipes or tub are plastic: putty chemically reacts with plastic, making it brittle. Masking tape is your friend.

Another use for it

Seems good for its intended purpose but that's not how I used it. I put it under my chrome overflow cover, which blocks the overflow entirely. Now I can take deeper baths. It's thick and soft enough that it works perfectly. Obviously you're not supposed to do this per code, but compared to the suction cup covers this looks better and works better. Just gotta be careful not to flood the bathroom. (Personally I set a timer while the tub fills, and I live alone so there's nobody else I have to remind about it.)

No more leaky drain!

Very pleased with my purchase! When I went to replace an old drain flange I found that the old gasket was... well old (as soon as I took it out it crumbled in two). I couldn't find the 3/8th thickness gasket in any of the big box stores so I had to order online. This gasket came faster than expected, was nice and supple, and was true to its size (+/- 1/16 which was to be expected).

Nice and thick and squashy to make a good seal but was able to fit it in there..

This thing did the job perfectly, I think it really helped that it was so thick but soft enough to squeeze it in the space.
