Cute bracelet making kit. Fairly easy to use

This is like a small knitting or crocheting kit to make bracelets. It uses yarn instead of threads so the bracelets are a little chunky. The kit comes with instructions that are fairly easy to follow for older young kids (like 9-10 year olds). The kit comes with four colors of yarn and several charms that you can add to the bracelets. It’s really cute.

Once it got started..

It was easy enough for a 7 year old to do on her own once started by her mother; it did have to be started by an adult as it was a bit tricky to start, but once figured out, it went well. Also, the 7 year old really liked the charms that came with it.

Fun afternoon project! You get a lot of varicose pieces to customize the bracelets. Would be fun for a sleepover and outdoor also make a good stocking stuffer type gift. Pay attention to age recommendations since there are obviously small pieces. ????????

Great activity

I got this for when my granddaughters visit so that we can do an activity together that doesn't involved electronics. The girls like this better than the rubber band bracelets. Plus, with me being allergic to latex, I could wear the bracelets that they made for me. Even my 9 year old granddaughter got the hang of making these bracelets pretty quickly. Very good instructions and really nice end products!!

Versatile tool and fun beginner yarn craft

I got my first I-cord knitter as a youngster, and love them. They go by various different names, so I'll call it a knitting spool in the review. This is a tool that you can get a lot of use from once you master it (and mastering it is easy). Don't stop at bracelets! Some people use I-cord for the obvious cording, but you can also sew it together by spiraling it, to make bigger projects like coasters and mats. Or even use it as applique on another yarn project. KIT The kit comes with a lot of fun stuff, and very clear written instructions (you can also watch their instructions online). Unfortunately, my kit was missing a key component (despite my searching for it, it didn't seem to come with one)--the wood knitting pick! I contacted the company. Per reviewer rules I recall, I couldn't disclose myself as a reviewer, and thus didn't receive any special treatment. They were kind in their response, so I won't let this missing item impact my review. Thankfully, I already had a couple of knitting picks that came with my other knitting spools, and used one of those. Just in case this happens to anyone else, there are other things you can try that you may already have, like crochet hooks or knitting needles. THE ACTUAL BRACELETS Back when I was young, I remember using my knitting spool to make a friendship bracelet for a friend and her refusing to take it off despite it looking bad quickly. I wanted to point that out, because yarn bracelets don't necessarily hold up as well as ones made with embroidery thread or nylon. One thing nice about these is that they're removable, though, so they don't have to be worn all the time. I went right to the striped bracelet as the first to make, because this technique was new to me! The instructions to make them are simple, in clear English, and there's even a "ruler" on them, which is so convenient. Other than scissors, the kit is complete. The bracelets work up very quickly, although the striped one takes a bit more thought since you have to stop every four stitches to switch yarns (though both stay attached, so it's not hard). KNITTING SPOOL QUALITY AND YARN TO USE As for the knitting spool itself, which is the star of this set, the quality is good. I like that it's real wood. This set isn't proprietary. Once you run out of yarn, you can just get more yarn! The instructions recommend using lightweight yarns (Craft Yarn Council's Size 3). This knitting spool is somewhat narrow, which is a bit of a shame since Size 4 yarn (bigger than lightweight) is common, and the yarn this comes with is thinner. The yarn in the kit works through very smoothly due to its smaller size. I tried the more standard Size 4 to see if it would work. Red Heart Super Saver can be a thicker and rougher Size 4 than other yarns, and can be a challenging yarn to work with for yarn projects, so I started with that one to really put this to the test. Technically, it does work, but the gauge is so incredibly tight that it's extremely hard to work with, and I wouldn't recommend it. I quickly gave up on that. I also tried Bernat Satin, a thinner and smoother Size 4. It worked so much better. (This is the short yellow yarn sample at the bottom of the photo. This isn't the yellow yarn from the set.) So, when replacing the yarn, it would be best to stick with thinner yarns, as recommended in the instructions. Some Size 4 yarns may work okay, but they'll be more pleasant to work with if you're really selective with which ones you choose. FINAL THOUGHTS Overall, this is a fun set, and it may be the beginning of a new hobby for those who enjoy it. This is a great starter set that may lead to bigger projects and a love for yarn crafts down the road. Plus, the completed bracelets are super cute!

Great little art kit! End product is quite nice... giftable!

Art kits can be really hit or miss... some contain too little material to be a good value, some are too difficult, some result in only a so-so final product. This kit hits all the marks and is a really nice gift for an 8/9/10 year old, in my opinion! Here's why: 1. Good amount of material: You can make a lot of bracelets with this kit (I think it said maybe 15?), it also comes with a nice variety of charms. 2. Resuable!: Even once the yarn runs out, you can just buy some more (and some more charms) and use the little hand-loom thingy forever. It's well built so it should last. 3. Relatively easy to use: Once your 8+ year old gets the hang of it, it's pretty simple! It can take a little time to figure out and become proficient... lifting one loop up over the other loop can be tricky. But that's really the only thing you have to figure out! 4. Good value: For what you get, I think the price is fair. Especially considering you can use the sturdy hand-loom forever... 5. Nice final product: With the charm and gift tag attached, the bracelets themselves make really nice gifts for a kid's friends! They look pretty cute and well made! My only concern: The instructions are pretty good, but I couldn't quite figure out how to "tie off" once your bracelet has reached the right length - it's a little unclear to me. I got it to work, but probably not correctly! Overall, though, this is a very nice art kit. Recommended!
