Excellent product!

This product was recommended by a friend bc of its reinforced stitching in the handles. I feel secure when handling my St Bernard's in the water.

Little Big

I took the measurements that they recommended and it ended up being a little big on one of my dogs. If your dog is on the border of sizes I would go a size down. It still worked but one of my dogs looked a little goofy. The handle is great. We kayaked with our two dogs for several hours and they would swim and then come back to the kayak and I could lift our smaller dog out of the water with the handle and the bigger one I could use it to help get into the kayak. I believe it helped them swim a lot because my dogs swam for hours with only a few short breaks and I couldn’t get them out of the water. I do wish they had more color options though. Overall, great product and worked great.

I reviewed a lot of dog life vests. I wanted to avoid those with a lot of Velcro which would entrap my dog’s hair. This vest is well constructed. I like the two handles on the back (one vertical and one horizontal) which gives you options to grab and pull your dog out of the water. The underside of the vest consists of foam padding on each side which are secured by 2 straps and buckles. On my dog, the two foam sides don’t meet in the center under her belly, but there’s still plenty of buoyant support. The best part is no Velcro, and it’s easy to put on with the two buckles. There’s a band that goes over the head and supports the front of the neck/chest. It is adjustable too. Check out my pictures to get a better idea of how it works. A good choice for a dog life vest! Finally, I just wanted to add that the highly rated Ruffwear life vest is VERY similar but it's double the price, and it has a very small piece of velcro that is used to secure the underside straps, which could irritate your dog (not likely though). I personally think that the Kurgo is a much better value.

GIANT chest straps - awkward fit for deep chested but not giant dogs

The opening around the neck - from the top of the back to the front of the chest - is ENORMOUS. What kind of dogs have a neck that huge? I had to double the strap on itself to fit my deep chested (but not giant-necked) dog in the Large. The underbelly straps could not adjust down small enough, so it's an awkward fit to get large enough for the depth of the chest/ribs. I do like the safety features of reflective piping & double handles, so likely keeping it to continue comparison with another brand of life jackets.

It's okay

As a lifejacket, it's okay. A suitable and cheaper alternative to the Ruffwear Float Coat, but it's not exactly the same. My dog found it to be a little too long and overly supportive in all the wrong areas; it's just not exactly what we needed. If you're looking to purchase this mainly because of its advertised feature of being able to be used as both a jacket and a life vest, dont bother with purchasing the new style. I'm deducting a few stars because the advertising, from the name to the listing, is very misleading when it comes to the new style of jacket they're selling. The new style does not allow you to remove the floatation layer and is far too bulky to be used as a jacket; it's just your average lifevest with a few okay features (I do like the fact that you can tuck away the adjustable straps and the handles make lift assist easier) but that's about it. It's a good lifevest if your dog fits the dimensions and needs a lot of support when swimming, but it just wasn't for us.

Love it!

The double handles are a game changer. They make for moving and picking up a 70lb dog to get on and off a boat very easy.

Great for beach and pool!

My dog does not like water, so I bought her this life jacket for our recent beach vacation since I didn't know how strong of a swimmer she would be. I was pleasantly surprised to find that she LOVES the beach, which made her life jacket even more important! She is used to wearing a harness, so the life jacket wasn't a big adjustment for her, but she definitely was able to run around, jump, dig, and try to catch sandpipers and ghost crabs in it without any problems. She seemed comfortable and the life jacket was secure during all of her beach shenanigans and during her brief dips in the ocean and the pool. Also, she got lots of compliments on how cute she looked!

My dog now LOVES swimming, this helped her build loads of confidence! Well made, great design and looks good!

My rottweiler Diamond is 9 months old and we live at the lake, she has swam for many months but NEVER confidently and never jumped in excited by choice, I always had to lure her in with food and she would walk out on her own or dog paddle back to the swim deck if we were on the boat, she never looked happy. NOW SHE LOVES SWIMMING! This vest gave her the largest confidence boost ever, she cannot WAIT to go to the lake and play fetch or just swim for fun/to cool off. I say lake and she wags her little rottweiler stub and bolts for the door, this puts the biggest smile on my face when I see how much she loves it. We visit the lake 2-3 times a week and over the course of 2 months the vest has just began to show signs of minor wear around the stitched edges. I have stopped using the handle, as I'm worried it's going to rip off sooner or later. PROS --- Vibrant Color Works outstanding short term Highly Adjustable True fit compared to size chart Handles for helping lift dog out of the water (if your on a swim deck of a boat or in a pool) Clasp for leash that seems to hold up (though my dog doesn't pull much on leash) Velcro AND buckle around neck for EXTRA adjustability (which was a life safer in my case) CONS --- Red Nylon fabric begins to pull apart at the seems on the handles Loops which the bottom two straps go through are spot stitched and not well supported (cheapest part of vest) ripped during first use *** Note these loops are the ONLY thing keeping the straps on the vest and not against your dogs belly/chest which would be uncomfortable! I fixed by restitching and now it's fine. SO, If you have a young dog whom you want to build confidence by using a vest "just for now" then this will do the trick. If however you are looking for a long term (or life time) solution for your pets swimming needs, go spend more money to get the best one you can.

Perfect!

We use this nearly everyday! Our dog runs in it no discomfort and I have an easy mind when out swimming in the Ocean or lakes. I'd say our Australian Shepherd would have been fine with Small but we bought medium and it's easy enough to adjust! Hoping it will last years!

Product that was described was not the product sent.

I had previously, 2 years ago, purchased two of these life jackets through a storefront near me. This life jacket, as described should have been the same one as I ordered previously when I received it...it was not. It was a much cheaper product and did not have the quality that my two previous purchases had. It had cheaper materials used and the sewing was not of a good quality. I immediately returned the product because looking at it, I had no faith that it would actually hold up for any like the time for my dog. Amazon was great and refunded the purchasing immediately. I always appreciate Amazon's customer service. Thank you!

Terrible chart sizing

I love Kurgo quality! However, the sizing for these life jackets is messed up. I initially purchased the small as my dog is precisely in the middle of the size on the chart. It was so large that I could not adjust it small enough to fit her. So I ordered the extra small. It is quite obviously a different model & it is so small that I can't even do it up on her. I will sadly be returning both.
