Works great but wish it was bigger
This works really great I just wish it was bigger in size. It was way smaller than I thought by the pictures but I have made it work for me

Practically Perfect
Edited 8/6/13: The product was received in a carded bubble pack, and was exactly as stated, a Lucky Line Key Release #42701. It is chrome plated zinc alloy, is very heavy, and is well made. I have been using similar key organizers for about 30 years, and I am familiar with the various ways in which they fail. I have had this one for over a year, and have just purchased another. It may be the best design I have owned. I am quite surprised by the negative reviews. DSMom commented that the rings were cheaply made, but the rings I received were not. They have a bend in the middle to keep the ring smooth and prevent keys from accidentally coming off. They are stiff enough to discourage accidental key loss, but not so stiff as to make their deliberate use too difficult. David Wang said "The key chain had a serious design flaw...if you move one of the rings near [the latch] and bend down, the body of the rod (attached with the ring) will force the lock inward, thus allowing [the rod and ball] to slide out." This is a common problem with this type of key organizer. However, on the one I bought last year, the spring is quite stiff, and the balls are just large enough to make working them past the latch very difficult. I have not had it happen accidentally. On the new one, the balls are a different shape, and working them past the latch seems impossible. Apparently the manufacturer has improved the design to eliminate this problem. Furthermore, most key organizers of this style are made one of two ways. With the first type, you cannot pull back the latch if a key is at the opening. You must pull it back and then move the key into the opening. On those, the rod cannot pry the latch open because the ball is in the way and is large enough to prevent it. (The Troika Patent key ring is like this.) With the second type, you can pull back the latch, releasing the key, even when the rod and ball are directly at the opening. On those you can usually work the key loose as Mr. Wang described, without deliberately pulling back the latch. However, my new Lucky Line 42701 is the best of both worlds. I cannot work the key loose, hard as I try, without pulling back the latch, but I can pull the latch back and release the key, even when the key is directly at the opening. That may not seem significant, but if you need to release a key with only one hand, it makes a big difference. As I noted, the spring on my older #42701 is fairly stiff, stiffer than on any other key organizer of this style I own. Personally, I do not find this to be a problem, and only took notice of it because of another reviewer's comment. However, I have very tough thumbnails. Someone with weak nails might find it more of a challenge. On my new one, the spring may not be quite as stiff, but the latch operation is certainly smoother (smoother than my old one ever was), so it is easier to use. With many key organizers of this type, including the $25 Troika Patent, the latch is not contoured correctly, and it can be a struggle to slide the balls past the latch so you can remove the key you need. On the Lucky #42701, however, the balls slide smoothly past the latch, making it easy to get the key you want into position. Finally, the track the balls slide in is larger than it needs to be, and this lets the Lucky #42701 use all the balls from my old organizers, even the largest of them, while still holding the smallest securely. Currently, these are available through Amazon for $4.04, shipping included. With the design improvements I have mentioned, it is now practically perfect, and the value is unmatched. I am buying another.

Excellent Key Holder - Highly Recommend!
20+ yrs ago, I got a similar 'key release' from Sharper Image. It's been my only key 'chain'. I LOVE IT! A t-connector disappeared after having my car serviced and I wanted to find more t-connectors - it's the tiny unit with a hole in one end for the split key ring; the other end has a small ball (I've also seen them with a flat end) which fits into the key release and allows the unit to slide effortlessly around the key release. The older one I have is heavy-duty stainless-steel in a large U-shape (1-3/4" widest part of the "U"; 1-1/4" across top of "U"; x 2-1/8" length) with the release at the top of the "U". It's still easy to remove keys, but in some cases, I must remove other keys first to get to the one I want, depending on the order of the keys on the release. I've dropped my older key release countless times and the keys (and other objects - teeny knife and teeny flashlight) have never come off the key release. The key release has gotten scratched up, but it adds to its character. Initially, I was looking for the Lucky Line Key Release just for more t-connectors to add keys to my older release. I was happily surprised with the Lucky Line Key Release. It's smaller and completely round (less than 1"). It seems to be made out of the same kind of heavy-duty stainless steel, and the key release does not interfere with the keys movement around the release. So, to take off any key or keys, I'm able to move the keys to the release, in whatever order they are on the release, to easily remove them. The split key rings in the t-connectors are very small and thinner than what I consider a conventional split key ring. I've chosen to put a conventional split key ring, which will hold more than one key, into the smaller key ring that came w/ the new release. My older key release is my first and main key holder, and the new key release t-connectors fit it well. The Lucky Line is an excellent size for an every day key holder. I strongly and highly recommend the Lucky Line 42701 Key Release. When writing this review, it's just before the holidays, and I am getting more of them for stocking stuffers, while strongly encouraging use. I would still love to find a source for just the little "t-connectors". "T-connectors" is MY terminology. I really don't know the correct term for them, but want to find more without need to search for and purchase a key release wherein the "t-connectors" may or may not fit. Before finding the Lucky Line "Key Release", I didn't know what to call my older key holder, although I think "key holder" works, too.

Great Little Keychain
I love this style of keychain (& have used one similar for years & years). Small, easy to add keys to it and to also take off when not needed (like car keys, etc.) Add to a chain & clasp & easily attach to a belt loop while safely having keys in your pocket. I can’t speak to durability of this particular one just yet but if it is anything like my last one, I will have this with me for a long, long time. Highly recommended.

Just what I wanted
Seems durable and seems like all metal, and it’s shiny, looking nicer than the plastic one this is replacing. Keys go on and come off easily and only when they should. And it’s around half or a third the cost of the other brand I considered, depending on whether you get the other brand’s 2-pack.

Lasted less than a year
I love this kind of keychain. I had gotten one a long time ago at Old Navy and it lasted for years. Got this one and after about 9 months the small rings started to fail and they would just break and the keys would go flying.

Great keychain
This keychain does the trick nicely and makes it easy to take different sets off when needed. The only thing I'd like to see is slightly larger rings so you can comfortably fit three or four keys on.
