Has my miracle arrived via UPS?
ProSelect Empire Cages - Medium I just received this yesterday. UPS left it in my patio, didn't have to sign for it, so that made me happy. It's heavy. As another reviewer wrote, if the steel tubes weren't hollow this thing would be too heavy to move (for me anyway). I will be updating this review as days go by. Putting it together was easy. I put the floor grate in prior to putting on the back, as another reviewer suggested. I tried to put the roof on without it being on its side. Don't do that. It went inside and I had to unscrew the back to get it out. Have it on its side. Also, my crate is a teensy bit wobbly - I need to tighten one of the wheels. MY FAULT, not the manufacturer's. I had no problems with this being rusty as other reviewers noted. Mine was perfectly clean. Had an unusual odor but that's already gone. It seems SOOO STURDY compared to the wire cages. I am very pleased with how sturdy it seems at this point. As for the grate bottom - I cut a 1/2 inch thick rubber exercise mat (the kind that link together for gym floors) and put it down. I would have done this even if the bottom wasn't grated. As another reviewer noted, crate issues aren't going to be solved by a stronger crate. I have a rescue dog. She was abused in her first home, abandoned in her second. I have had her for years, and didn't need to put her in a crate because she was really a good girl, but I moved a year and a half ago and she has been HORRIBLE ever since. Tore up two doors and four door knobs. Pooped and peed on the carpet. She clearly doesn't like change. Now... because of her past she HATES crates. I tried w/ 3 wire crates. The last one from PetSmart was supposed to be sturdy and indestructible but of course, no guarantee. She broke it the first day. So I took her to daycare. I love the daycare. Francis Kennels in Xenia, OH has a wonderful daycare, for those that are in the area. I can't say enough good things about them. But it's a 45 minute drive there from my home and then 1/2 an hour to work. That's a lot. Plus... I'm not rich. They're not super expensive but it adds up... with gas money, but so are doors, door knobs, carpet cleaners, cages... My process for getting my girl used to the cage was to take the door off of the old wire crate - which wasn't hard because it was just barely hanging on and was bent. For three months I have been giving her treats and all of her meals inside the crate. I put her blankets in there. After two months she would go in there voluntarily. A few nights ago I had to go across town and was hoping that I could leave her alone for just 3 hours without her being destructive without taking her to daycare. It had been a year... was she cured? No. Peed on my bed, took food out of my kitchen cupboard, and I honestly just sat on the floor and cried. I know she's been through a lot but so have I. I wasn't in a great position to afford this crate but without it, I just don't know how much more I can take. I'm exhausted from driving and I'm exhausted from worrying about her when I'm gone. I promised her when I adopted her that as long as I lived, my home would be her home but I am tired. I'm sad. Anyway...on an overnight stay at the kennel she broke a tooth and I'm thinking she may do that w/ this crate, but I'm hopeful that I can keep her calm. As I write this, she is curled up in the crate on a blanket sound asleep. The door is open, but earlier this morning the door was closed and I praised her and gave her treats and she sighed heavily and went to sleep. Later today I will attempt leaving her alone with the door closed for about ten minutes and then maybe 1/2 an hour if she can take it. My dog trainer said to give her a beef knuckle to keep her occupied and that for the next few months if I am gone even for ten minutes, my dog must be in the crate. He said she has learned very bad habits and she needs new ones. But IF this works, IF this crate holds up, I won't go back to leaving her out. She will go through the glass door one day, I'm afraid. IF this crate holds up, it will pay for itself within 2.8911 months - daycare cost only - not considering gas money. I will post updates as I go along but I wanted to at least post that this crate seems sturdy, was easy enough to put together, and it was not rusty. Update: Left her alone in the kennel for an hour / hour and a half. It held her! SO HAPPY. I purchased D rings to reinforce the door for the days I leave her alone for more than that, but honestly I can not see this being necessary. I am SOOO happy at this point. Update: It has been a few weeks now. I was out of town for one of those weeks, and my dog was at the boarding kennel. However, life is back to normal. Well should I say, my life is now NORMAL. No longer do I worry about the destruction she has wrought upon my home. I worried a lot at first that she would be able to break out due to the comments about the poor welding job on the door hinges. I was bolting the sides of the door when I left. My boyfriend tried to pull the door off and couldn't so I stopped worrying about that. I do use two carabiners to lock the two door latches. She's excited to get out in the afternoons but with each passing day I can tell she is happier and more secure. I paid a lot for doggie day care, lesser crates, doors, door knobs, potty pads, etc. All of that pales in comparison to the heartbreak and worry that I went through. It seems like a lot of money for this crate, and I get that. It was expensive for me too. I know you may read the negative reviews... and think maybe it isn't as good as you need it to be. Maybe those that had a bad batch with the faulty welding will turn you away from the crate. It almost made me not buy this crate. My dog does chew on the crate bars. And yes some finish comes off when she does. It doesn't affect the crate sturdiness. I do put down a blanket for her to lie on but she usually bunches it up and is lying on the bare bars when I get home. My peace of mind regarding my dog - I finally have it back.

Legit durable.
My dog escaped from and destroyed a standard $100 cage from petsmart. This cage I've had for a few months and not one issue. Worth this price if you have a strong pup that needs sufficient caging while your away from the house. I used to worry while I was out, and would come home to a 45 min cleanup, not anymore! Thanks for great product that is, as advertised.

Very strong and heavy duty crate.
This product is very sturdy and strong. It was easy to assemble and the wheels are a nice touch. I had to add a cushion for my escape artist husky since she hates sitting on the metal bars. The only downside to the crate is the latches. Even though my husky hasn’t figured it out that she can open it, she will in due time. I’ll probably have to do some minor adjustments to the two latches that she can’t use her “human” hand paws to open but I’ll cross that bridge when that time comes. Other than that this crate is escape and damage proof in all other areas. I would recommend it highly especially if your dog doesn’t have pick pocket hand paws to slide open the latches ( I swear my husky could perform heart surgery the way she can use her paws).

Our favorite jail
We call this Caley’s jail. She’s always been very well behaved, but now that she’s a senior with dementia she can’t be trusted when left alone. We panicked and were disheartened when she chewed through the traditional wire crate we got her, and this crate gives us peace of mind. We did save the plastic bottom from the old crate because I was concerned about the openings in this crate, but even without it I think she’d be fine. For size reference she is a 42lb jack Russell terrier mix and she can stand up, turn around and lay down easily.

LIFE. CHANGING.
This cage is absolutely everything I wanted it to be. Ok. Time for some backstory. My dog is a lil complicated. Her name is Fiona, she is a 60+ lbs bullypit with a rough past that I took in off the streets and she has SEVERE thunderstorm/loud noise anxiety. This terrible fear of loud noises has caused her to freak out and start eating walls, trim inside and outside, and absolutely destroy her wire cage. It was like a Kong cage. Last straw was when I came back home after a thunderstorm and she was left alone, she almost ate through my bedroom door. There was a pile of shavings mixed with saliva and blood from her hurting herself trying to get into my room (she thinks I am in there). She also likes to poop/pee on the floor when I am not looking. (sometimes when I am looking, too ????‍♀️.) In additon, she is HIGHLY aggressive/fiercely protective of me, which makes having guests over a real problem. She has problems, ok? Anyway, I had dreamed of a cage that she could not get out of. Ideally, one she wouldn't even TRY to get out of. It would change everything... No more coming home to a destroyed house, or sticking her in the closet/bathroom so she wouldn't murder the company, coming back to poop and pee everywhere, etc. It got to the point where I basically kept a towel in the washer for the pee. Sometimes it would be a streak for days that that was the first thing I did in the morning was go and clean up her nastiness off my floor. Felt and smelled like it was a barn I was living in and not my house.. ANYWAY, I got fed up (putting it lightly, I was really at my wit's end) and went for it. I bought this ProSelect cage, honestly not knowing how it was going to turn out. I was worried I was spending a bunch of money on another cage she would simply destroy, but I had no other options. Literally none. Not even rehoming her, since she is a homicidal lil critter and I could NEVER rehome her in good conscience. Plus she isn't just any homicidal critter, she's my homicidal critter, and I love her. This cage is everything I wanted. IT HOLDS HER. THE OTHER REVIEW PEOPLE ARE RIGHT, THIS CAGE IS SO STRONG THE DOG WILL LITERALLY GIVE UP AND NOT TRY TO ESCAPE AFTER ABOUT A WEEK. My house doesn't smell like pee all the time anymore. For whatever reason she was ok with going on the floor, but holds it for the most part if she is in her cage lol. Can't dirty up her own house I guess haha. This cage keeps her and the guests safe, which means everything to me. I know how you are feeling, person reading this review. I know what you're thinking, "yehhh ok so it holds YOUR dog, wont hold mine." PLS, JUST BUY THE CAGE. If it hold's my house-wrecking, cage-destroying, senile dumpsterfire of a pup, it WILL hold yours. I got the cage July 2nd, it is August 9th and I have had zero problems thus far. Very early on, she tried to escape and scraped a little tiny bit of paint. That's it. I know this cage is $300 bucks, but your peace of mind and sanity is priceless. This cage will restore both. Set up was super easy, btw. I did it on my own. And the wheels lock in place, so the cage won't roll all over the place. Delivery time was QUICK. Yona even likes it, she RUSHES to get into sometimes lol, I think it makes her feel secure. AND it looks kinda nice, to boot. EDIT: It's 9/7/21 and it is still holding up perfectly, no problems at all.

Finally a Crate that Works
Finally something that works !!! Our 55lb Shepherd Cross suffers from separation anxiety. Has destroyed 2 wire crates, along with shoes, The arm of a couch, rugs etc. We tried anything and everything. We love our pets, and since he’s had such a rough start in life, until we rescued him, there was no way we were going to give up on him. He whines at first when we first put him in, but when we get home he’s lying down quietly. ( maybe he’s given up on trying to escape) We know that he won’t hurt himself trying to be like Houdini. The only thing I would recommend is that you put the tray down on the floor or something that their paws won’t get caught in. The reason we’re giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is the cost. But if it keeps our Dog safe and also gives us peace of mind that the house won’t be destroyed then it’s well worth it.

Heavy duty, Escape proof but paint peels when dog chews bars
Our escape artist hasn’t been able to get out of this one but we must use clips/carabiners to secure the latches. The downside is that the paint finish is coming off and there is rusting now because our dog chews on the bars. You’d think that a crate designed to keep anxious dogs put would have considered using a different paint or coating. It’s vwry sturdy with is awesome but also impossible to travel with.

Our new rescue dog was experiencing a lot of anxiety ...
Our new rescue dog was experiencing a lot of anxiety and had already eaten through and escaped from two other cages (1 plastic, 1 metal). The description of this cage was exactly what we were looking for. Our new addition is now safe and sound and we do not have to worry about her hurting herself trying to escape.

Check the construction.
There is a hole in one of the welds which should never have been sold in this condition. On the whole it would have been a solid 5 but for the bad quality control and the weld.
