OK, a review on a lamp...a lamp. All right...let's start with how it went out of the box. There is some assembly required, not a lot, just a little. When you open the box you will find two frosted glass light covers, a base and three or four lengths of tubing with the electrical power supply cord already running through it. There are, by the way, no light bulbs included with this unit. The LED lights are built into each part of the lamp. So, assembly. There are easy parts and one quite frustrating part. The easy part of assembly is when you screw the lengths of the vertical pipe/tubing together. It is impossible to assemble these in an incorrect order because of the power cord already running through it. There is a part of assembly that is a bit harder and that is attaching the larger light cover to the top of the lamp. This is done by using two supplied screws, lock washers and rubber washers. This is pretty easy to do since you can see the holes you need to insert the screws into, but it would be a bit easier if the screws were even a little bit tapered. They are not. Then there is an extremely frustrating part. The frustrating part is the attachment of the small glass light cover to the smaller flexible-neck. I don't get frustrated by "some-assembly-required" products, but this one frustrated me. Why? To start with, the glass cover doesn't fit snugly into the base so it easily slides around instead of being semi-securely in place when you try to finish attaching it. Attaching this glass cover involves two screws, lock washers and a flat, round piece that has holes in it for the screws. To make it even more difficult, the opening at the top of the glass cover is so small you can barely fit one hand down into it. To make things even tougher, the flat round piece is opaque so there is no way to see how to place the screw (again not tapered) into the threaded hole in the base. I'm not a klutz, but while trying to juggle the cover, the screw and lock washer, flat disc and lamp, the glass cover slipped off, fell to the floor and I nearly caught it with my foot but it bounced off and broke!!! Luckily it didn't shatter and we were able to repair it. I later tried again and was able to get the assembly work done. THIS IS WHERE THIS PRODUCT LOST A STAR IN MY REVIEW. Once assembled (finally!) the lamp works well. There are two touch-buttons on the back side of the lamppost. The top one runs the main lamp and the lower one runs the reading lamp. By touching a button once you get full power. Touch it again and the light dims somewhat. Touch it again and the light dims more. The third touch turns that part of the lamp off. The lamp is well constructed and feels solid. The light is pleasant and I like the fact that you can dim the light as needed. All in all a nice lamp, but for the life of me I can't understand why assembly of the reading lamp is so difficult. This could have been addressed with one or two small design changes - e.g., making the cover fit the base more snuggly, tapering the screws, and making the cover a little wider so you can get your hand in there. 4 stars. Great lamp, but crummy design flaw on the assembly of the reading lamp.
