Box Extender Better?

I can't tell if these are the right thing for the problem people use them to solve. The little folding plastic tabs option for leveling recepticals are hot garbage to use and while these metal frames work to level outlets on overcut boxes or to give them support, I think in most instances a box extender is probably the right thing to do. On some outlets by the time you get the receptacle itself tightened enough over one of these, it seems like the metal of these frames bumps up against little injection molding circles / plastic bits on the back of standard outlet covers and therefore the outlet cover doesn't sit flush against the wall very well. That same thing also seems to be true for box extenders though so, maybe outlet Face Plates are just trash? In both cases it would be solved if Home Centers or website likes Amazon sold standard white/almond 'deeper' face plates but those seems very difficult to find. They always have the ones that are physically wider/taller, in which case these might not interfere with the little injection molding spots on the back of the faceplates but if you like me and you want your face plates to match (don't you just hate that one that's bigger than the others?) good luck. Ended up buying a couple 'deep' faceplates from the internet which worked perfectly but again, not ideal IMO.

good stuff

I learned of this product while looking at a Ron Hazelton YouTube video for help with a wall switch box that became detached. In the past, I would swap out the box with a replacement "old work" box. I was looking for a faster easier fix. This is it. One plate did the trick. But I decided to add a second plate for added strength. Came with 3 plates and was cheap enough.

Genius solution for DIY backsplash

I wish I knew these existed sooner! Easy to install and a quick, but sturdy, fix for outlet extension after tiling a backsplash. I would buy again and recommend.

Works

Finally, something to secure loose outlets in a kitchen with a tile backsplash and recessed outlets. Couple of things to know. First, I’m a little fussy so I doubled two plates per outlet to cover both sides of the outlet wall when securing the outlet. This works great by just flipping one plate around and keeping the end labeled top on top for both plates. I found this worked better than just using one plate per outlet but even one plate is better than nothing. Second, because I used two plates per outlet the package quantity of 3 isn’t ideal. Luckily I purchased 4 packages so I ended up with an even number and enough plates to do 6 outlets. Lastly, you may find that you need longer screws depending on how recessed your outlet box is. I needed to purchase longer screws for my outlets. I would highly recommend this product to anyone that has a recessed outlet box and loose outlet.

Great product for upgrading electrical in your home.

Great product for upgrading electrical in your home. I had electrical plugs and switches from the 60’s, still worked well but wanted to update. Problems I had was the finishing plaster surrounded the old plugs and switches and the electrical boxes where not all set at same distance so when cleaning out plaster to fit the new product I removed the support plaster so on just a few I had no fit issues but the rest had issues with install not fitting properly. And if there was tiles even worse. Highly recommended

Not worth it

These things are not strong enough to withstand bending if enough drywall is missing. On there own, they might work if the drywall is only slightly missing and the wall is pretty flat/even.

I had no idea this was a thing. I had a sunken outlet and it looked horrible. I stumbled onto this gem and it works. Incredibly easy to install in about 30 seconds.
