It had one job...

I bought this particular punch based on the reputation of the Swingline name. Alas, like so many other brands, Swingline has lost its way by sacrificing quality for cheap labor. The punch has only one job - to punch a clean hole through paper/cardstock. And it is incapable of doing so. I would estimate it punches properly about 1 out of 5 times on average. The rest of the time, it jams in the hole, leaves an area of the punched hole looking like it was torn, not cut, or just doesn't cut at all. I tried on this paper, lightweight cardstock and heavier cardstock. It made no difference. My 3-star rating is a gift. I would not recommend.

Good single hole puncher, but a rubber/foam grip and a sharper punch would be even better!

We bought this little single hole puncher mainly for punching, well, single holes! I've used mainly to punch the mounting holes for my homemade Mountain Bike mudguards/fenders, as these are the easiest and most versatile option (you could use a drill but there's more chance of it going wrong). BTW those mudguards were made out of thin plastic sheets, basically binder divider sheets. I like how these have a little "storage" flap at the bottom, which will retain all the little bits of holes you've punched out. Every handful of uses, you'll probably want to dump the the stuff out so it won't get clogged in there. It will also punch though thin cardboard, like TP rolls. I do wish these punchers had a foam or rubber slide-on grip covers, as after repeated punching, especially through thicker materials, your palms will hurt a little bit. Also, I do wish that this puncher had a little, sharp raised "lip", how these single hole punchers work is there's a flat, completely dull little metal disk that just uses brute force to punch through the material. If it had raised, sharp edges around the disk it'd be easier to punch stuff. However, all single hole punchers I've seen all "suffer" from these two "drawbacks", so take that as you will! Overall, solid puncher, oh, and it punches decently clean holes (some other reviewers say it punches really badly), you will probably need to clean up the edges a little if you're picky about the holes, but nothing major. And I almost forgot, I've had this puncher for over a year now, I use it maybe once or twice every month now. If you're punching paper....

If you're punching paper, this works great. Not so much on plastic. It tends to stick when punching plastic, making it hard to open the punch again.

Works as Expected

This item works as expected. It is a good quality single hole punch. It can cut through multiple pages, maybe 5-7 max. The paper that was cut is stored in a little bin on the handle that has to be emptied.

Good hole punch - a classic ????

The media could not be loaded. I can never have too many of these around the house. I use these for school, in my home office, to organize my kitchen (I hang different food items on some wire hooks inside the cupboards). This is a classic that every home needs and is inexpensive enough to have a few of them. I've tested this one out and it works really well. Since I took pictures before throwing the packaging out, I can confirm that it states : this has a : ''7/8 inch (2.22cm) of throat depth'' and makes 1/4 inch holes (0.635cm). It's a great little punch for 5 sheets of paper or less (as stated on the packaging). I tested it with cardboard and again, it worked flawlessly. I bought this one to hang in my cupboards so that I have easy access to it when putting the groceries away. I punch holes in pretty much anything from the grocery store that comes in a pouch and I hang them inside my cupboard doors since I don't like wasted space or excessive packaging (the box that contains the pouches). So, long story short, I'm very happy that Amazon has this as an add-on item and that it's so inexpensive. Barely works and waste of money

As you can see here in the picture, it does not make a clear hole punch. Most of the holes are still stuck to the paper once punched and you have to rip them off. The hole punch doesn’t come out easily from the paper either because the punch doesn’t punch the whole way. There wasn’t even one perfect hole in all of these tries. Waste of money because I can’t use this for gift tags at all.

Don't be fooled by the price.

I was looking for a single hole punch that wasn't too expensive or cheap quality. This punch fit the bill. It is like the old paper route punch I has as a kid. It goes through card stock easily. The collection area does hold a lot of hole punches before you need to empty just make sure you close it tightly. I haven't tried punching more than one sheet at a time,but I don't think this type of punch was made or designed for that. This is a great sturdy punch easy to use & good quality for the price. I am happy with my purchase.

Cheap

As per usual, this style of hole punch just can't handle much. Although, I suppose I don't use it as directed so probably should give it a more appropriate rating. Anyway, it can't cut anything other than 5 thin sheets of paper. If you do more sheets, thicker sheets, vinyl, acetate, etc, it'll bend and break under pressure.
