The Drill Bit That Got Through

The 3/16 In. x 3-1/2 In. Cobalt Drill Bit produced by the Bosch company was used by me in a handheld drill. The circumstance sucks because my rechargeable drill died, unable to power up. It’s probably the battery needing replacement. Whatever handheld or electric driller, Bosch CO2139 product is unlikely to require replacement for a good, long time. It is an attractive metal piece which fitted well in my drill. The drill bit dug favorably into wood and plaster boards, I did not try metal surfaces or anything harder because of my hands predicaments. Nonetheless, I feel assured ordering other drill bits from Bosch.

Held up very well while drilling stainless steel.

Bought two of these in different sizes for drilling stainless steel. After thoroughly searching the web for advice on drilling stainless, I found one post that made sense to me. The author stated that when drilling stainless, it makes no sense to lubricate the drill bit with any type of oil or lubricant. The objective is to cut the stainless while keeping it and the bit from becoming too hot. Lubricants only cause slippage. So I stacked washers on the stainless surface I was drilling and kept them filled with water. The water cooled the stainless and kept it from hardening before being cut. Also made sure to drill slowly as higher speeds build the heat faster. Drilled dozens of holes in this manner and the bits held up. The Bosch bits outperformed the Century bits that I also purchased.

Kind of worked

I bought two of these bits to go through a piece of 1/4" leaf spring steel. The steel turned out to be especially hard in some places, so the bits only worked for a few holes. One of the bits chipped out a bit. They might be okay for some light duty applications, but I'm not sure I'd get them again. I was able to find USA bits around the same price with higher cobalt content, lifetime warranty, and no breakage.

Flattened surfaces to fit the chuck

Nice bits, especially for the price. Added feature are the flattened surfaces so it doesn’t slip in the chuck.
