Great Rain Jacket

I wanted to wait a few months to try this jacket out before leaving a review so I could form an opinion on it. I have had this jacket for 6 months and it has been great so far. It has been great so far, just what I was looking for. The jacket is lightweight which was one of the things I was looking for so I could wear it year round. The jacket is light enough to not burn you up on warmer humid days (Kentucky humidity is brutal) but also loose enough to comfortably wear a sweater under during colder weather. I keep it in my car so that I have handy at all times no matter where I am. I've worn it in numerous drizzles, a few down pours, and even a rain/snow/sleet combo and have remained perfectly dry each time. Highly recommend!

Oversized so order one size down

Great jacket and I want to buy a size smaller. guys who usually wear a 4xlt should probably go for a a 3 possibly even a 2xlt the 4 xlt is huge and I've worn 4xl a long time and this is the biggest 4xl I've worn ever. It wears like a huge dress honestly. Also the waterproofing seems to wear off very fast after about 9 hours of heavy rain, colombia are using a terrible waterproofing compound, but you can just use your own waterproofing and it will perform great. A great jacket if you are a super tall guy like myself, thank you columbia for making these rare extra tall sizes.

Bought several for trip

We went to Alaska and I need a weather proof coat. I ordered a bit larger so it would cover my camera. Quality and durability is great.

Decent beginner rain jacket lacking some hiking features

I want to start by saying this review is focused on hiking and backpacking ONLY, not around town use! I was looking for my first rain jacket to wear while hiking and backpacking and purchased this as it was recommended by a friend. For a beginner rain jacket, this was not a bad choice at all. It has a fully adjustable hood, 2 hand pockets of which it packs down into one of them, and is moderately lightweight at 13.5oz for a men's small. After wearing it a couple times, I was very impressed with both its durability and windproof capabilities. I fell several times into Yucca bushes and this jacket didn't have even a slight tear. It also kept me warm from 35mph winds at one mountain summit. It doesn't have pit zips or any ventilation features so why it will protect you from wind, you will bake in warm temperatures quickly. I didn't experience any rain to speak to its waterproof capabilities. Overall, this is more of an around town jacket then a backpacking jacket. Plus as someone who is 5'6" and weighs 135 with an athletic build, the small felt a bit bulky on me. I ended up returning it for the marmot precip eco which weighs 10oz for a men's small, has a slimmer cut, pit zips for ventilation, and packs much smaller. Not bad for the price but if more features and a hiking focus is required, you may need to look elsewhere.

VERY light weight

Disappointed that the jacket was almost too light-weight. This is more of a rain jacket, it will need a sweatshirt or heavy shirt underneath in even chilly weather.

Plus-size women: Read this review

One of the frustrating things about being an active plus-size woman, particularly one that carries a substantial amount of weight in the chest or belly, is the near-total lack of high-quality technical gear available for purchase. Most companies assume that if you’re overweight, you must not go outside in inclement weather, and most certainly not to *gasp* exercise! As many plus-size people out there know, many of us do both, and many of us are committed to improving or restoring our health, be it from weight-gain due serious injury or illness, or from simply choosing a healthier path in life. (Both happen to apply in my case.) The problem as a woman, however, is the extremely limited range of plus sizes in high-quality technical gear. Columbia is one of the only brands to have plus-sizes at all, but even theirs only go up to a 3X for women. And, unfortunately, their 3X is more like a 1X-2X in other plus-size brands like Penningtons. That leaves women over 240 lbs out in the cold (literally and figuratively). However, plus-size women, there is hope. I ordered this Columbia men’s plus-size jacket in 4X and it was the equivalent of a women’s 4X at Penningtons. Just as important (and rather surprising): the sleeves are not excessively long like most men’s jackets. They’re only slightly too long for my arms (about an inch) which is easily dealt with by using the Velcro straps. The rest of the jacket is equally well-proportioned. While it doesn’t hug the hips in a feminine way, it’s not bulky or pouchy in other areas, and easily passes as a unisex or women’s jacket in my opinion. As expected from Columbia, the jacket materials are superb. The jacket is very lightweight, waterproof, breathable, and exceptionally comfortable. It’s infinitely more comfortable and higher-quality than any of the plus-size department store-brands I tried, and it’s about 40% less expensive. Highly recommend to anyone who is plus-size and desires excellent outdoor gear.

Too expensive for the quality provided

It's a good product, but frankly was not as impressed. Columbia winter jackets are great, but rain jacket is not as good as that considering the price. Cheaper products provide same quality and rain water protection
