Good color variety; Gritty Yellow Ochre; Non-rewettable Hansa Deep Yellow
First off, I purchased this set of watercolors after being very happy with set 1 of the same line. So this is less a review of Ph. Martin’s hydrus watercolor paints in general, and more a specific review of this set and the colors contained in it. (For the paints in general, I’d give them a 4 star rating; they’re my go-to paints for most projects!) As far as the color selection goes, this set has Set 1 beat in that each color is definitely distinct, with its own hue and color mixing properties. That’s a step up from set 1, where the two reds—4H Deep Red Rose and 5H Quinacridone Magenta—are very nearly indistinguishable once they’re on paper or mixed with other colors. The first photograph that I’ve attached shows a fairly concentrated color swatch for each paint in this set, with a more watered down swatch of the same color below it. In order from left to right in the photograph, they are: 19H Burnt Sienna; 18H Viridian Green; 17H Indian Red; 16H Cobalt Blue; 15H Permanent Red; 14H Yellow Ochre; 13H Hansa Deep Yellow; 20H Alizarin Crimson; 10H Venetian Brown; 21H Sepia; 22H Payne’s Gray; 23H Sap Green; 24H Burnt Umber. 10H Venetian Brown is NOT found in this set; it’s an accidental inclusion from set one. I keep all my paints in a pencil bag, and wasn’t paying close enough attention. In addition to being satisfied with the color variety I was also very happy to see some of my specific favorite colors from more traditional watercolor paints, such as yellow ochre and Payne’s Gray. With all of that said, I was very disappointed with the quality of the yellow ochre in particular—especially with it being one of my favorite colors to use and one of the reasons I purchased this set. It is very thick and gritty, and the grit does not go into suspension even with added water and a fair amount of time and mixing. You can see this illustrated in two of my photographs. The label for the yellow ochre also seems to be slightly different from the other paints; it has a specific pigment labeled and provides a lightfast rating, which I haven’t been able to find on any of the other bottles. It doesn’t make the color *unusable*, but it’s definitely not ideal, either. Particularly if you’re one of those artists that likes to use Ph. Martin’s watercolors by dropping paint straight onto the canvas for some techniques. (I don’t, so thankfully it’s not as much of a problem for me as it could be, but I’ve seen other artists use these paints that way.) Another thing worth noting is that not all of these paints can be re-activated or re-wetted if you allow them to dry on your palette. You can manage it with most of Set 1, but with this Set 2, I found that 13H Hansa Deep Yellow is completely unsalvageable if it dries on your palette. All I’ve ever managed to get back is a very light wash and a bunch of paint flecks. It’s a gorgeous hue, so I’m sad to find that this may lead to more incidental waste of that particular color. Over all, I’m passably happy with this set, particularly the color variety and the specific colors that are included. But the quality isn’t quite what I was hoping for. If I get around to it, I’ll update this review with a full mixing chart of all of the Set 2 paints.

Love These
I purchased these several months ago but waited until have used them for a few months to write a review. I use 140 lb cold press paper and mostly round sable brushes. I really liked them from day one but now just love them. I put a few drops on a porcelain tray and mixing is so easy. I use a limited palette, heavy on the primaries. The intensity of colors is so flexible—from the lightest transparent wash to intensely opaque. They are permanent once dry so layering is so easy with no bleeding. They are also lovely using wet-in-wet. I use mixed media and they do well with acrylics, ink, and Ink powders.

I got what I ordered, as described, with no issues so far
I want to state specifically at the beginning that I ordered this on Amazon but made sure the seller was the Dr. Ph Martin store, as I, too, was worried about the quality of the watercolors, the consistency of them, and receiving the right colors in the pack (I saw people were getting duplicate colors and missing one, chunky product, etc.) I contacted the seller prior and they explained what was going on, and that if I had any issues with them that I could contact them and they would take care of it with free replacements that would be checked prior to shipment for quality. Hard to find service like that these days, so I went ahead and placed my order. I received my order today (December 24th, 2020) of the Hydrus Set 2 and everything appears to be as it should. It was double-wrapped in bubble wrap. I have all the right colors and no duplicates in my set. These were recommended to me by my friend, and I get frustrated using my cheap tube watercolors since I end up wasting more than I use. These have droppers and are liquid, so it is far easier to use just enough. Even though they are 0.5ml bottles I wholeheartedly expect them to last a long, long time. I will update my review soon with more details and some photos of examples. I just wanted to post my experience so far so the item would have a more recent review regarding what is received.

seems to leave an uneven color, it's ok if you really when on opaque layer.

My first water color set.
Very easy to use and it seems to provide endless paint. I really like this type of controlled liquid medium. Also the paint tray was very helpful.

Almost perfect.
Some droppers damaged and some bottles of paint are wayyyy thicker than others. Love the colors otherwise but do not reconstitute well, which is fine as long as you know what to expect.

Colores vibrantes
Colores muy vibrantes y concentrados. Fácil de usar y mezclar, incluso con acuarelas tradicionales. Compré el set 2 y la selección de colores es muy linda.

Wonderfully Intense Watercolours
I've purchased Dr. Ph. Martin's Hydrus Fine Art Watercolors before and was so impressed that I also purchased this set. There are currently (I believe) three sets. I had set #1 and was very happy with it, but it didn't have all the colours I wanted/needed. While this isn't cheap to purchase, the colours are very intense and a few drops goes a long way. The colours are very intense and do not require mixing, as the pigment is disbursed throughout the liquid. A shake of the bottle is sufficient. I do not expect to have to repurchase either set# 1 or set# 2 for years.

Wonderful paints, rich and transparent colours.
These paints, although expensive, are a pleasure and easy to use. The colours are rich, so you only need a small amount to paint with. I like the way you can control the mixing with another colour with the droppers and don't waste too much. They remind me of coloured inks but of course are different.

Worth the investment
Incredible colour - never used watercolours like this. As a student, I was hesitant to spend so much money, but they really do last - so glad I took the plunge!

Love these water colour inks. They are so vibrant, and 1 drop goes a long way. Great value! Arrived in 2 days.
