Nice quality shirts
These shirts are really nice. I like the colors and so does my daughter. She picked them out and has been wearing them a lot. They've held up well so far after washing and they should continue to do so. The sizing is pretty normal compared to other shirts, so I'd say go with your kid's typical size.

As expected
I ordered this set in the XXL for my daughter who usually wears a 14-16. The fit is as I'd expected. I wash the tops on the cold cycle and air dry them to prevent any possible shrinkage.

Children's place clothes, are these knockoffs?
I have purchased clothes directly from the children's place in our local mall. They are durable and soft on the skin. These are cheaper, but do NOT reflect the same quality. NOT EVEN CLOSE! The material feels paper-like and stiff. The colors are fine but the pattern is sewn together weird so the print is all mismatched at the seams. My daughter says the shirts feel itchy and refuses to try to wear them. Where do these come from? Is it ok that you call them a Children's place product, when clearly they are different. Not pleased, and as the old saying goes...you get what you pay for and sometimes less.
