Love the Coldwater series
I use the 203 for trolling deep for lake or bull trout, 203 has great capacity. (300 yds 40lb braid) Bought the 15 series for jigging for the same species. 15 series works great, holds plenty of line. Almost 300 yds 30lb braid. 300 will fit, but spool is pretty full. Click feature is a must for dead dropping herring and settingin rod holder. This reel and the Penn Warfare are the only two line counter reels I ever use. Warfare is a bit bigger framed, Coldwater has a nice feel, counter always seems to work and not stick. Definitely recommend

TOUGH REEL/FAIR PRICE
I have used these reels on my fishing charter in the Gulf of Alaska for 4 years now. I own 11 of them. I use the 30 series for Salmon and the 40 series for Halibut. When you have a 30+ pound saltwater King Salmon or a 100+ pound Halibut on the end of your line, you NEED a great reel! I've had reels that cost 3 times what these do that don't perform well and don't hold up over time. The saltwater environment we subject our equipment to is brutal. These reels get a steady dose of big fish and saltwater all day, rinse of fresh water at night and a couple drops of oil twice a year. But they last. I have only had to replace two over the years. Not from failure, but from clients that just can't seem to hold onto a pole when there is a big fish on the other end. Very sad to see pole, reel and fish get away. Mostly the fish. But that's the life of a charter captain! Anyway, great reels at a fair price. Highly recommend!

Good Trolling Reels but Watch the Nut
Been using these several months trolling for striped bass. They work well and the line counters are great, BUT, be aware I had the single nut which holds the handle and drag wheel pop off while trolling, resulting in both the handle and drag wheel going swimming, permanently. Poor design there. The nut only turns about 3 times, so if it comes loose, you will have close to zero notice and may lose your handle. Recommend putting lock tite or similar on it (I will be doing so with my others). For those that care, Fiblink makes a 5.5ft stiff trolling rod which matches these reels perfectly. Additionally, these reels are manufactured in China, not Japan, which the brand name (a Japanese city) would lead you to believe.

Sticky counters and dead spot
Gotta watch sticky counters I’ve also found that this reel like many of the other Okuma reels have a dead spot where one has to slightly reel at times to open and close the bale.

Hauls the big ones in to the boat!
Used for trolling for Stripers in the Southern United States. Works perfectly very smooth reeling reel. Line counter works great! A very sturdy reel for the money.

Needs to be tested
I own a bunch of 2009 Okuma Catalina levelwind line counters from the size 20 to the largest, size 40 whose frames were obviously machined out of solid blocks of aluminum. The "old" Catalinas are as rock solid as a conventional can be. Not the case with this Okuma line. Line the Daiwa Saltiga LWLC's, the casing and side plates are probably castings. What makes these look "cheap" is the paint job which frankly speaking, looks like spray paint. Aside from that, here are my Pros & Cons: Pros: - Perfect placement of the line counter above the sideplate. It's out of the way unlike the Tekotas and Saltigas which protrude from the sideplate hitting your left pole-holding arm during the fight. - Line counter (LC) is large and very easy to read at a glance. The Daiwa Saltigas are hard to read. - LC reset button is more recessed greatly reducing chance of accidental reset. - Okumas winding knob is big, burly and made of rubber not plastic. Feels good in the hand. - Star on the drag system is smooth and sensitive with positive clicks for fine adjustment. - Freespool lever automatically snaps back into wind mode with 3/4 turn of the handle. - Overall quality of the reels is, "Good". - Comes with pole bracket to lock in the reel to the reel seat. - Offerred in left hand versions Cons: - Cheap paint job - noisy gearing when winding. Mines was almost as loud as the ratchet! Gonna open her up and grease her more to make her quieter? - Ratchet was softer than Okuma's equivalent Catalina LWLC's. The main reason why I purchased the left-hand models is because I'm used to my spinners which I crank with my left hand. Also because I bottom fish from the starboard side of my boat, it's easier for me to wind with my left hand while gripping and jigging the rod with my right. Okuma offers left-hand versions in all sizes of the cold water series. So if your a spinner-type guy who's used to winding or cranking with your left hand, the cold water lefties may be great for you too!

Great reel, Great price!
I now have 6 of these reels, 2x 153D, 2x 202D’s and 2 x 303D. I really like the star drag, it’s very good and holds large Kings with ease, I have personally caught up to 30lbsers with no issues just a good sold reel and Amazon is selling at the best price by far! Can’t go wrong!
