They're actually brass!

Bought these to attach hinges to a small beech and spalted maple box. They worked great, just be aware they are really brass, not brass plated steel. In hardwoods predill your hole with a 5/64" bit and lube the threads with some bee's wax and you'll be all set, no need to worry about heads sheering off. I'm very happy with these screws.

Not for use in anyting except balsa wood

While these #4 "solid brass" wood screws LOOK great, they BREAK EASILY. I was simply joining two 1/4" birch plywood pieces at right angles. The screw is mostly to hold it in place while the glue dries, knowing that they're not "heavy duty" to begin with. I not only drilled the initial hole, and countersunk it, I drilled holes into the piece it would be affixed to once the pieces were clamped by 90 degree angle clamps. And I broke three out of nine. Every single one of those three broke where the thread begins, indicating that because the shaft between the head and the threads is too fragile. If it was as thick as the threads, I don't think it would be much of an issue. I'd chalk it up to a QC issue. Some were fine, and seemed to take the strain. But 3/9 breaking is not only too high of a ratio of loss for the project (I need 96 screws to complete two custom tool boxes for my worktable), it's too much work overall to spend more time pre-drilling more out of the part where the threads are supposed to engage. I want to finish the project before the second coming. Instead, I spent less time drilling out the remains of the screws that broke, left the 6 that I did manage to get in without breaking and ordered some #4 steel screws, which should take the strain a lot better without doing more to baby them into place. I would not recommend these for anything other than the lightest of woods. Since birch is generally a very light wood (even as a plywood), I'd not recommend it be used on ANY plywood, and no thicker than 1/4 inch of thread penetration. (I had the top 1/4" break off). Two stars because they look good once in, but that's about it. It's not that they WON'T work. They just fail too often to make using them cost effective for ME. If you enjoy drilling out broken screws and don't mind throwing a third of them away and drilling the remainder out, they probably will work for you. I just don't have that kind of time or patience, thanks. So, I ordered #4 steel screws to avoid the breaking issue.

I needed a bunch of of these so bought in bulk. My only critique is that they were pretty brittle. I pre-drilled all of my holes, but even so many of the screw easily snapped with the slightest of tension....super frustrating.

These screws are made very poorly. They twist off in predrilled hole with little effort making a mess of your project. Don’t buy!

works very well

Brass must be hand tightened and pre drilled..I just did 200 of them on my project. It was Teak boat deck. No issues or problems at all. Good product great price.
