Propet: Extended Sizes but not an Extended Calf

I blew out my ACL and meniscus a couple months ago and can't wear heels to an upcoming event, nor can I wear sandals because the winter weather may not cooperate. I bought these boots after an extensive search for low-rise (not flat) boots that would provide a comfort foot-bed. This is only my second time ordering shoes on Amazon and my first time buying the Propet brand. Shipping, like most of my PRIME orders in 2023, was horrendously slow (over a week). And like the Naturalizer boots I ordered two years ago, these "leather" boots are a complete fail. First of all, the tag and the description claim that the upper is genuine leather. The only portion that is leather is the toe box. The front of the shaft is vinyl and mine was discolored with a gray streak at the top. Additionally, there is zero new leather smell. The back of the boot is comprised of a material that may appear from the product photos to offer a stretch panel to accommodate various calf sizes but in fact is a neoprene-like material with minimal give. I bought mine a half size up and in wide to accommodate heavier socks and because the description implied that the calf size would also be extended. My foot fits just fine but I couldn't zip the boot past my ankle. At this point, having viewed hundreds of boots in the lead up to this purchase, I am flat out of options. Shopping for a boot that is both wide width and extended calf is like finding a needle in a haystack. I viewed hundreds of boots online and couldn't find sizing that accommodated both requirements — nor for a modest heel as opposed to a flat boot or a high-heeled boot. (Sigh.) In terms of composition, finding genuine leather boots is itself Mission Impossible. I am old enough to remember when leather shoes were readily available at a variety of price ranges. I also remember walking into a shoe store in the early 2000s and finding that one of my go-to Reebok shoes that was formerly made of leather had been switched to vinyl but the tag stitched into the tongue of the shoe still said "Genuine leather" (after raising the issue online, Reebok was hit with tons of complaints). Since then, the problem of false labeling has only become worse. Shoe manufacturers are charging more and more each year for a quality level that would have been a Payless Shoes special back when I worked for the retailer briefly in the 1990s. As a college student I worked at a leather goods and shoe repair shop — so I can't be fooled by faux leather. Vegan leather never looks convincing on a boot and is generally only good for about a season — so these fossil-fuel based shoes end up in a donation bin and ultimately a landfill faster than their cow leather counterparts. As such, how does vegan leather in any way make for a "sustainable" alternative? (What's more, manufacturers are now charging for plastic what they used to charge for leather so the savings of faux leather are a thing of the past too.) It's too easy to scrape up a faux leather shoe and end up with damage that can't be repaired whereas genuine leather shoes can take a beating and be stripped down and even re-dyed to give them new life. Leather breathes, breaks in and conforms to one's foot — vinyl doesn't. I honestly don't get why manufacturers of top brands — but for those coming out of Italy — are cheapening their shoes to this extent. All plastics come from fossil fuels and will not degrade in landfills. It is not an environmental step forward to manufacture MOST shoes sold in the U.S. in vinyl and call it "leather" when the bulk of the shoe is anything but biodegradable. These boots will be packed back up in the shredded plastic mailer Amazon used to ship them and sent back.

They fit!!

I bought these for my 13 year old daughter in 11 xx-wide, and they actually fit, and are comfortable! She hasn't had a pair of dress boots fit in years due to the size of her foot. She loves them so much! I will definitely be purchasing other styles of shoes from this brand.

Comfy with a small lift

I honestly wanted flat comfy (sneaker like) boots. These are comfy but not totally flat. They have a small wedge like heel and arch support which is nice but not sneaker like. They are tall and go to my knee and I'm 5ft 4inches and the material on the back calf of the boot is stretchy and cloth material and the boot seems sturdy and cute. I will keep it. I hope to find the sneaker like flat I'm looking for somewhere else :) Decent price and comfy for slow casual walks and days but not for brisk walking and walking up and down steps like I wanted to use.

Nice boots

These are very nice boots, however they were too big for me. So I sent them back. But if you can find the right size you won’t be disappointed.

Beautiful, Comfortable Boots

These boots are made for those of us with problem feet. I have a high arch and instep, over pronation, and plantar fasciitis. All of these conditions are relieved with these boots. Plus they look great on!
