Great hat...
The first one I bought for gardening years ago, but my husband took it over and wore it all over Guatemala and for years after our time there. Then I bought another one for him, and he’s been wearing that one for years. I bought myself another one last year as a birthday gift for myself, but last summer one of my twins needed a hat for marching band practice, so I lent it to him. I doubt I’ll see it again, nor am I sure I want to. So, once again I’m buying myself this hat. Hopefully, I can hang onto this one. It’s great for hiking, gardening, or just sitting under the sun. It’s comfortable, the brim is just the right size, and I like having a strap to hold it on when it’s windy, so I don’t have to chase it down the road. They have all held up well under some pretty harsh conditions. So, when I need to get a hat I always go back to this one. I’ve had a lot of compliments on it, as well.

how to make a great hat into a perfect one
These are great hats and very durable. I'm on my second, having lost the first after about four years -- it was still going strong. The one drawback for me is that when motoring along at 15 mph in a boat (or facing into a headwind), the brim flaps up and down over your eyes, like a hound dog's ears. Here's the solution -- go to the Hardware store and buy a 36 inch by 1/8 inch thick brass (won't rust) rod ($4). Round the two ends of the rod with a file. Bend the rod into a circle that mimics the outer edge of the hat brim. The brim is over four feet around, thus the rod will only trace out about 2/3 of the edge. Then figure the best entry point (at about the 4 or 8 o'clock position and push the rod into and along the folded over outer edge (hem)of the brim, gradually working the rod forward and around the brim edge until it stiffens the brim from the 8 o'clock aound the front to the 4 o'clock edge. The rear third of the brim does not get stiffened. Now the hat brim won't flap. Problem is, the hat will slowly sink if you loose it overboard. So, keep the drawstring drawn. This is why I'm on my second hat.

Almost perfect
The hat is great - good material, good construction. It does seem to fit a bit large - I ordered a medium for my 7 1/8 head, and if I had less hair it would be loose. I don't personally love the shape of the crown, as it seems a bit bulbous when worn, but how often will I see that when I'm wearing it? Almost never, so who cares.

Everybody loves my hat!
This is a good one. Fits me well. Lots of sun protection. Looks like it will las 100 years. Everyone seems to comment on it and love it. Your neighbors will want to know where you got your gardening hat!

Disappointed by misshapen hat
Disappointed, I returned the hat and re-ordered directly from San Diego Hat Company (more expensive, but better product). First of all, I don’t think a hat can be “one size fits all”. I am a size Small on the size chart at San Diego Hat Company’s website, and this “one size” hat was too big. Secondly, the hat came packaged in a box which was smaller than the hat, so the brim and crown were bent/ misshapen to fit the box. Even with a clothing steamer I couldn’t get the bends out of the straw material. Overall, I was unsatisfied and returned the hat to Amazon. I found it worth spending $10 more to order from San Diego Hat company: to have a hat that fits, packaged properly (the new hat’s brim looks much nicer and the crown isn’t misshapen).

I love this hat!
I bought a mens medium and it fits like a dream. The brim is a perfect sunblocker and the material is lightweight and airy.

Finally a good, inexpensive work hat
Good hat for a guy. Use it for landscaping work all day in sun. Flexible enough to bend, but not too much so it's not all floppy. Just right!

Best wide brim hat I've ever seen or owned.
Live in Florida. Nuf sed. Saw a guy wearing one of these at an all day lacrosse tournament and approached him to inquire about it. It is a great looking hat. I've always worn those straw hats they sell at the surf shops. This cost a couple of dollars more than the cheapest, and it is seemingly indestructible. The guy that turned me onto it said he has had his for at least 4 years, and it looked great still. His was missing the leather trim piece, but other than that great. Great fit, it is a little heavier than the lightest straw hats, but after you wear it once you won't mind at all. Great hat. Great value.
