Better than the Off Brand

I've purchased both the off brand of blue tape and this Scotch Blue Original tape. This stuff works the best, by far. The off brand tape bled under the tape and left me with a mess. Also, the off brand blue tape stuck to the floor in multiple places and wouldn't come up easily. This blue tape peels off cleanly and the edges stay clean and crisp. Spend the extra $$ and buy this brand!

The best, but too expensive for everyday use.

Great tape. The best. But it is so expensive I’d lock it in the gun safe if we had kids. Seriously. I use this for masking my most precious artwork because it removes so well. But NOT for random, everyday stuff. The dom perignon or Tiffany’s of masking tape.

What I use

There are plenty of these tapes out there. I’ve been using Scotch Tape and am happy with it. Has good adhesion and is easy to remove from old paint. If you’ve just painted a ceiling and want to mask it off in order to speed the the wall painting, be very careful and slowly pull the tape off. A case where the advantage of good adhesion might become a disadvantage.

A Multitude of Uses

Blue masking tape for use during painting is a no-brainer. However, for temporary use, there is no end of applications. We live year around in the Arizona Desert and have an enclosed covered patio. In our particular case we bought rolls of insulated foil sheeting, cut pieces to fit our windows, and held them in place with this tape. During the hot summer weather it keeps the patio area about 10 degrees cooler. When summer is over the tape will come right off without any residue and we will save the pieces for next summer.

Good!

I used two tapes: this one and a cheaper, slimmer off brand tape. The other tape led to problems: pulling off paint, etc, where this one didn’t. Also, the 1.5 inch width is perfect for use with rollers: I can roll right up against the tape, knowing I won’t get paint on the ceiling. I recommend this!
