Just in case …

After being swamped in my kayak and being rescued by a friend with a pump, I decided to get this one. It is light weight and tied onto my kayak easily with a bit of rope. It suctioned well. Thankfully, I have not been swamped again, but now I am prepared.

Great Pump, But Lacks 1-Inch Hose

This little pump is well constructed and really pumps the water well. I don't have a boat but wanted it for clearing sludge (you know, the thick black stuff at the bottom of little concrete ponds that looks like thick oil and smells worse). It works fine for that, and I pump plenty of clear water through it after each use. The only problem is that it picks up little rocks that have to be removed from the pipe. That takes little effort. When I received the pump, I was surprised that it did not have a 1-inch hose included. The description and specifications seem to conflict: "Product Description Amazon.com An essential tool for every kayaker, the Paddlers Bilge Pump features a super-comfortable, easy-grip rubber overmolded handle and a high-visibility neon yellow stock for extra safety. Although not needed or included, a 1-inch internal diameter hose can be added to the output valve to route water away from your boat. I called a couple of the large building supply centers, and they did not have anything larger than 3/4 inch. I called a large hardware chain store and was told that it had the 1-inch size for $2.99 a foot. When I go there, I will find out if it really exists. If seller is not including this hose with the pump, then the description needs to be amended. Thank you.

Works great!

Bought it for my 2022 Outback. Tested it in the pool; it pumps a lot of water! A little bigger than I expected but probably necessary to reach the bottom of inside of kayak and sent the water out. Decent product for the money.

This thing sucks!

It sucks great! It has the ability to add an extension hose to the output. The only thing I would add would be for the intake end to have a hose fitting as well. I use this for a micro-skiff that will hold a bit of water beyond the reach of this pump when it is completely vertical (which is how it has to be held). Ability to add a hose fitting would increase reach. I've probably bilged 25 gallons of rainwater out of it so far, and no problems so far. You may want a sponge for those last few cm's of water if you like your boat extra-dry.

Easy to use

I haven't had to use it to bail out water from my kayak, but I did do a few test runs using a tall pitcher of water. It did the job. It sucks up water and shoots it out the side as you pump back and forth. If you're looking for it to clear all the water, you'll be disappointed. The suction does not sit all the way down flat to get the last of the water. I took in water in my kayak last season, and I really could have used this to get the majority out instead of scooping water out with my hands. Overall, I think the product will do its job and will have on hand each time I go out in my kayak.

A kayaking day saver

So as a started-kayaking-because-of-covid-social-distancing newbie, going on the second summer with this, and IMO don't leave home without it. When my 2 layer inflatable started to pool with water from some invisible hole, it might have been embarrassing, but every now and again I would just pump out with this. Wasn't in danger of sinking, but paddling with a gallon or more of extra water isn't fun. This spews out water just fine, is lightweight. I put a lanyard on and wouldn't kayak without. Plus, even if you don't get a leak, you can use to remove excess water onshore. I like the bright easy to see color too.
