good quality
My Squirrel Buster (mini) arrived yesterday afternoon. I was very pleased. It is well constructed, easy to assemble, and operates exactly as promised. The squirrels, however, were not as happy as I about the new feeder... they were agitated, almost frantic trying to get at the seeds, and I'm sure one of them was giving me the evil eye through the patio door. Sadly, on day two, several of those pesky critters have figured it out and it is NOT the fault of the Squirrel Buster design. For my convenience, the feeder is hanging close to the deck, so unfortunately, the squirrels are able to stand or sit on the deck railing near the feeder They soon learned that by sticking one hand into the feeding hole they can grab the inner cylinder preventing the outer shell/cage from dropping down; not every time, but often enough to keep them coming back for seconds. Overall, it is a good product and I'm going to keep it. It will be up to me to redesign/lengthen the hanger so it is out of easy reach. If I order another, and I might, I would definitely buy the larger size.

Lives up to its name
There are over 100 trees within 2 blocks of my home, so squirrels are everywhere. I’d be fine with them if they didn’t act like vacuums sucking up all my birdseed. I don’t have a place for a pole in my backyard with more than 6 feet between it and the trees, my roof, and the fence, so squirrels will always be able to access my bird feeders. I tried a slinky and water guns, but short of running out of the house screaming like a lunatic, the squirrels just ignore me. This is my second mini and in over 5 years there has only been 1 squirrel smart enough to hold on to the shepherd’s hook and grab the feeder from the side to get the seed. I am so disappointed that they have discontinued the mini. I laugh watching the squirrels jump onto the feeder and try to gnaw on the sides or find another way to the seed. Eventually they give up. I like the mini because I put less than a cup of birdseed/day in the feeder so the seed won’t get moldy if it rains. I wish they made a single suet cake squirrel buster. If you have a squirrel problem, the Squirrel Buster is a terrific solution,

It worked
I live in rural northeastern Minnesota and we have a ton of birds all winter. And a ton of very evil red squirrels. This has easily paid for itself over the winter in lost seed. One thing: I had it adjusted pretty stiffly for bigger birds and the squirrels got in, but as soon as I made the easy adjustment, they were no longer able to get at the food. DEFINITELY worth the expense since you will be buying significantly less bird food!

Almost squirrel proof
Our local squirrels have figured out how to shake the feeder from the top to get the food to spill on to the ground. But it is still a great feeder. I know own three of the minis! Customer service from the company/manufacturer is also fantastic should you need a replacement paet or help!

Squirrel proof but not chipmunk proof
I’ve had this feeder for almost a year now and overall it is pretty good. The birds seem to like it and it does keep the squirrels out. However some chipmunks recently discovered it and they are light enough not to trigger the cage to close.

Best feeder we've ever owned!
This is a very well made feeder. We bought the first one last year and liked it so much, we added a second. You can adjust it according to the weight of the birds you hope to attract. It does a good job of keeping the squirrels from getting to the seed, but keep in mind... birds are messy eaters and drop about as much as they eat. So the squirrels just get their fill on the ground.

Birds love it, but it needs one small adjustment -- the perches
Birds love it, and squirrels are defeated. But the metal perches tend to come loose and even fall off. Easy to snap back on, but wish they didn't come off so easily. I'm not sure whether the squirrels or the birds are the culprits. Just wish the perches were more securely attached.

One of the few products I don't have anything bad to say.
This feeder is easier to clean than others. It really is squirrel proof. It is easy to add more seed. So far it has last 8 months and is doing well. There is one area where the feeder is attached to the hanging hook that looks a little rough (like it wants to turn rusty) but so far it hasn't. It still seems sturdy, but I can imagine years from now, as it ages, this one weak spot could be the main problem. I went to order a larger size and am quite disappointed at how expensive they are. The cost is prohibitive. Aside from that, I love this feeder. It is the best I've ever had.

Nice product
It keeps the squirrels out of the seeds. Works well but does require a good cleaning inside and out once in a while. The spring mech also needs some TLC occasionally.

Perfect feeder exactly what I wanted
This is the perfect squirrel proof bird feeder. With anticipation I watched as the squirrel shimmied down to the feeder, sure enough it closed. The squirrel could see and smell the food but couldn't get near it and gave up quickly. The feeder removes easily for fast filling and cleaning. The hook it hangs from is tough enough the weight of the squirrel was no issue. There are three different chambers so you can put out different kinds of food. All in all a brilliantly, simple design that just works. The way the moving mechanism and spring are covered means wintery weather should not be an issue. It is worth noting this is a smaller bird feeder, my birds empty it pretty much in a day. For the price it's worth it!

Decent little bird feeder overall
Overall decent - the neighborhood birds are enjoying the seed buffet while my indoor cats get to enjoy cat tv from the backyard sliding glass door. The ventilation holes at the bottom are kind of big though so a lot of the smaller seeds (finch seeds) would fall through. I fixed it by putting packing tape over the holes, and using a needle to re-open the ventilation holes but much smaller so that less seeds would fall through. The only other issue is that the medium to larger birds kind of knock the birdfeeder around as they land on it which does cause some of the seeds to spill out, and also because it is a smaller birdfeeder it doesn't hold as much seed so it needs to be refilled more frequently (but perhaps it's a good thing because then the smaller batches of seed are fresher since they need to be refilled more frequently as opposed to a larger bird feeder of which the seeds would sit in it much longer and lose freshness over time). It was nice enough that we ended up buying the larger "legacy" version and that one is also popular with the neighborhood birdies. I can't say if it's effective against squirrels yet, as I haven't seen any squirrels attempt to get at the seed.

THE VERY BEST!!!
Hands down the best bird feeder ever. This is the third one I've purchased, and they don't break, the birds love them, the seeds stay fresh, and NO SQUIRRELS spilling all the seeds. They can pick up what does fall to the ground every now and then. Every size bird is able to feed at will, that meaning cardinals, to the smaller chickadees, no problem. The perches are adjustable to the weight of the birds, and close the opening when too heavy (such as a critter) and not a bird. Absolutely brilliant!

The finches are back.
Working nicely. Having no feeder for years due to squirrels and chipmunks this has brought the finches back and I have not had any seed stolen. Happy with purchase.
