Does what it is supposed to do...

...which is float your mooring chain and resist ice entrapment. While a bit pricey, it's preferable to damaging your (even pricier) summer mooring buoy, or relying on detergent bottles susceptible to sinking. My only complaint is that it is not very tall. A foot of snow buried mine and it got run over by a snowmobile. However, except for the hex plug popping out, the buoy was undamaged. I solved the problem the following season by sticking a blue driveway reflector into the foam through the open plug hole, and sealing everything up again with JB Water Weld epoxy putty. I highly recommend this modification if you use the buoy on a lake with heavy snowfall and any vehicle traffic. Be aware that the image and description is of the LARGE sully stick, a different product. As noted by another reviewer, the small sully stick does not have any eyelet at the top, and lacks metal reinforcement of the lower eyelet. However, after two Maine winters of use, I've noted no wear of the plastic on the lower eyelet.

short but does the trick

this is an item of very good quality, works well as long as you add weight to the bottom (a few chain links is what I used) The smaller size does not change its effectiveness. It stick out 18" from the water. A boat hook or piece of line (rope) is the easiest way to retrieve it in the spring as it is often wet and slippery.

Disappointed & here’s why…

First Off I have the longer sully stick by TM. Extremely happy with that one. I bought this shorter version for a lighter duty use (anchor ropes, not heavy chain). Immediately I noticed how there seemed to be no weight on bottom (or very little) like my bigger one has. As suspected, it lays near horizontal on surface. Maybe a heavier weight (like a chain) would make it more vertical but who knows. For light duty use, expect what u see in my picture

receive my item and found no eyelet on top but a hex plug on top, this buoy has to be foam filled and weighted at the bottom to stand upright in the water. if you weight the bottom with a chain it will eventually wear the the plastic eyelet at the bottom and fill with water.a really bad design.......
