Overall, my impression is that a non-contact scanning thermometer exchanges some consistency for convenience. There was one occasion where we were trying to take our child's temperature and getting pretty wide variation between readings, apparently based on exactly how far it was from his forehead, we we ultimately remained pretty uncertain as to whether he was running a fever. However, over the course of using for a few weeks, including passing an illness through our household, it's seemed to be consistant and accurate enough to be useful. It's of course much faster than holding a thermometer under your tongue, and so much more convenient to get a temp reading on a sleeping person, child who doesn't hold one under the tongue well, etc. There are also settings for measuring the room temperature or the surface temperature of an object. While I haven't found a particular use for those settings, they do seem to be accurate.

Accurate, fast, and easy to use thermometer
Last year we ordered a Vicks brand non-contact thermometer. We like to keep one on each floor of the house though so we’re not fumbling in the night time, so we ordered this Veridian model. Although I’d never heard of the brand, I am impressed with this thermometer. Like the Vicks brand, this is so easy to set up and use. All you have to do is open the flap on the bottom of the unit and insert two triple A batteries. As with all thermometers, it’s important that the device has been in a room between 59 and 95 degrees F for the past half hour (and also the person has been in that temperature range too, otherwise it will affect the reading. Then all you have to do is hold the thermometer 1-2 inches away from the forehead right over the bridge of the nose and press the scan button on the top. While a typical person is 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit, not everyone has that as a normal temperature. Therefore, you should take your family members temperatures several times over the course of a week to get a baseline for everyone. That’s important so that when someone in your family has an elevated temperature, it may factor into how you react. What I like about this thermometer: - This is a simple to use no-contact infrared thermometer. Like that we don’t have to worry about covers or germs when used by multiple people in my family. - This thermometer is accurate when testing numerous times with readings, and gives the same readings as another thermometer that I have found to be very accurate. - This has a great green/yellow/red feature so it’s easy to tell if there’s a problem. Also there is a nice, easily red LED screen. - Love that this can do body, surface, or room temperature, and it’s easy to switch between three. - There is a beep to let you know the temperature is done, but what’s even better is there is an on/off button for the sound so you don’t disturb a sleeping or drowsy person. - There are 50 memory recall settings. The most recent temperatures are stored first - It comes with the necessary 2 AAA batteries, and they’re super easy to change out in seconds. - This thermometer is small and lightweight, easy to hold, and easy to operate the trigger. What I don’t like as much: - There is no concept of users / dates for the remembered temperatures. If you are switching between users or trying to keep track of when someone had a specific item, the best you can do is write down the information. -There is no way to export information to a cell phone or computer. Overall, this thermometer is accurate and is easy to use, with a fast reading and an easy to read screen. Although there are memory settings though, there isn’t a date and time option. Also this is currently less of a value than other brands but since it is very accurate, it is definitely something I would recommend.

Mostly always accurate
For the nost part I have found this thermometer to be trustworthy and accurate. Since it is new I compared it often with an oral thermometer. This one is more convenient. There were a couple of times my son obviously had fever and this said he didn't, but the oral said he did. Mostly it was accurate.

Very fast reading

Simple to use
I already own a non-contact thermometer, but I wanted an extra to have on hand and to check accuracy. I like the simple interface of this one over my other. It’s very easy to select Fahrenheit or Celsius because the button is labeled. Mode and memory buttons are also labeled. My other one only has a couple buttons labeled “-“ and “+” that perform several tasks so you have to remember which one does what. This one also has an on/off switch on the side to turn on or off the audio beeps. I like that it has the ability not just to read body or object temperatures, but room temperature as well. It’s the first time I’ve seen that feature on one of these. And it came with batteries so I didn’t have to raid the junk drawer. The only negative I could find is that temperatures for people and surfaces are registering about 4/10 of a degree higher on this thermometer than my old one. Does that mean this one is off or is my old one off? I really have no way of telling, but the difference is minimal. 96.4 or 96.8 is still in the 96 degree range so it’s acceptable for my purposes.

When Covid first started I wanted to buy a non-contact thermometer; the problem, trying to find one that was truly accurate. After reading reviews, they couldn't agree on the accuracy.
