Perfect fit for an old Chicago home

Bought this to replace our old spout. Our house is over 100 years old and this fit like a glove. Did not need to use the adapter as this was the perfect fit straight out of the box. Just applied thread tape and wrapped the spout in a towel to tighten it with a wrench to prevent any scrapes or scratches. After the spout was in place I generously applied clear caulk to close up any small gaps between the spout and the tile.

May have to cut pipe

This is a nice heavy tub spout. The downside is that there is not much room for play like the slide on style. The spout I replaced had an extension of 1/2" copper, but when removed the threads were still out too far leaving a big gap by the wall. There was no way to adapt this to fit without cutting the pipe in the wall and sweating a new thread pipe...which was way more work than we wanted. Went with a different brand so can't speak to function.

Beautiful spout, and a great value!

My shower was installed in 1960, and the diverter was leaking badly. After looking at several options, I came across this diverter spout, and was impressed that it was cast brass, and was very pleased that I could get it delivered quickly. The 3/4" size is a perfect fit for my existing fitting, and the spout looks completely original. Great price, too!

Nearly impossible to install

This is nearly impossible to install. I have about 1/2" of my pipe nipple sticking outside the wall (a 2" pipe nipple 1.5" deep into the wall), and somehow this is too much length for this spout, leaving a 3/16" gap. Yes I could fill with caulk, if I wanted to recaulk it every ten years... If the nipple were 3/16" shorter, there would be almost no threads sticking outside the wall - a dangerous situation if the threads were to leak! And nobody makes a 1-3/4" long nipple. The people who designed this product clearly never tried to install it. You basically have to have the correct nipple length down to 1/8th" accuracy, and the manufacturer has no guidance for what the length should be. There is no literature in the box, on the product page, nor on the manufacturer website. Buy something that is actually possible to install.

Well built, long term choice

This is the choice of you don’t want to replace your shower spout every 6 months with a poorly built plastic product.

Solid/ heavy brass construction

The good is the tub spout is very heavy due to being solid brass construction which I like and should hopefully make it last awhile. The bad is the bushing would not screw all the way into the pipe so when the tub spout is screwed on it left a sizeable gap between the spout and the wall. This gap had to be filled with caulk. I wish it had the option of only coming with a 1/2" IPS connection instead of needing a bushing because it is more universal.
