If you work on heavy equipment, get these.

I work on heavy equipment that all use hard air lines, everything from 1/4 to 1 inch air lines and have always struggled to cut it flat and without crushing and deforming the line I need to put on, these do it all, soft hose, hard line, these have been a great addition to my tool box. Picture is 3/4 ID hard air line

Solid, Well-Made Aluminum Tool

I’m not a pro & don’t use this for pipe cutting. What I’m using it for is cutting my family’s hundreds of cheap plastic clothes hangers into 3 pieces each for recycling (both the thin plastic kind & the felt-covered plastic composite kind). I’m replacing them with sturdier, more attractive hangers. I tried to use already owned, but inappropriate, tools to cut the hangers (Knipex 74200 & Klein D2328 wire cutters, & HK Porter 2000 bolt cutter, none of which are intended for plastic cutting), & it was too much trouble to use a saw. So I found out what I already knew: they couldn’t do the job without exerting lots of force & twisting. So I bought this Ridgid plastic cutter & it works great, with little effort. Many of the other plastics cutters I researched were not able to cut as small a diameter as needed for my job, but this one cuts down to 1/8” diameter, so it works where others wouldn’t. A solid, well-made aluminum tool with a very nice textured finish & positive ratchet action.

Not worth the money

I have very mixed feelings about this tool. I have always made do with the $20 cutters from whatever big box store I happen to be in. When I’m replacing a single valve or a sprinkler those tools are fine. Frankly, if I could get replacement blades for the cheaper tool I’d probably just do that. However, when I was facing down building and replacing an 8-valve manifold not to mention running all new 3/4 pipe on a quarter of my acre, I wanted something more substantial. I found that in this tool. However, I have a couple of gripes. For starters, and this might not bother some people, the tool is made in China. I don’t even care about the country of origin, but when a company is manufacturing in China I do not expect the tool to be more than twice the price of other Chinese-made tools that do the same job. Second, the pipe cradle is more of a “U” than then the regular tools which makes it more difficult to get into tight spots. Working underground is almost always a tight spot unless you want to dig more than necessary. Third gripe, the blade springs fully open each time you open it. There’s no way to open it just enough for what you need. I suppose the positive side to that is you can push the blade down to meet the material by hand saving 3 or 4 squeezes when working with ¾ material. Finally, I don’t believe the blade is very much better than any PVC cutter you can get off the shelf. It was sharp when I started which allowed me to avoid cracking some older schedule 80. But like any blade it started dulling. One of the reasons I bought this cutter was for the replaceable blade. Unfortunately, the blades cost as much as a new cutter from a big box. If the tool was ten bucks less and the replacement blades were 5 bucks less I think this would be a win. But the price to value takes a couple of stars.

Best PVC Cutting Ratchet I have Bought Yet!

I have used ratcheting PVC pipe cutters for years, but never, ever had a cutter that was as easy to use as this one. Yeah, it's pricey, but the last tool I just threw away was about $10 and the aggravation it caused me, and time lost, is worth ten times the price of this tool. It cuts right through 1" and 3/4" schedule 40 pipe like butter. It has a strong, solid, but not too heavy design. I have hopefully a temporary tennis elbow issue and I couldn't even make a dent in the PVC with the old cheap cutters. But one hand, no discomfort with this tool. I have cut around 30 pieces with it already and no issues at all!! This is a big issue because I have to cut pipe in my existing sprinkler system that is in the ground. It absolutely has to work one handed, and this tool solved that for me!! If you want quality and not have to worry about this frequently used tool working with PVC, this is it. I can't speak for the longevity of the sharpness of the blades, but I saw that they are replaceable. Then it would work as a whole new tool! Of course, sharpening the blades with a little oil and a dremel would work too. I'm happy with it big time. I hope you will be too.

Makes straight cuts

Let's be honest. The ability to make a straight cut is often crucial. The vast majority of pipe or tubing cutters fail at this task. This one does not. Nice straight and square cuts in a variety of tubing, including PEX. Can't be happier!

Best one yet.

I rated “value for money” 5 stars because even though price is a little high, nothing in it’s price range can compare in quality. The only other cutter that I have found for the same money has a cheap plastic handle with way too much flex. This tool is solid and easy to use does not take a lot of hand strength to cut larger pipes. I’ve had several different brands of cutters and this is the best one I’ve ever used. I recommend it.

Great at first!

Lasted just over a year with very limited use. Which isn’t like ridgid. I use some of there products daily with no trouble however the Blade will not retract anymore. Also this used to shatter the pipe all the time if you didn’t score it a lot. Spares are more expensive than buying a new one. Wouldn’t recommend this for the price. I cannot find a good plastic cutter I have been through 8 different brands and having no luck.

Not worth the expense

Ok not worth paying 3 times the price of an average pair, blade blunted quick and is now squashing 15 mm hep after a week on mlcp pipe
