Nice train set for a beginner

I purchased this set for the base of my Christmas Tree and I am quite pleased with the set. It was easy to assemble the track and to mount the engine and cars into the track with the provide setting tool. The controller is fine for this beginner set, but I hear that the other controllers offered by Hornby would cause to train to run quieter though for me it is not a problem. The paint quality of the engine and cars looks fantastic in person and Santa on the side of the box car look great, looks to be a transfer decal that was well placed on both sides. Axles and rolling assembles all are in fine working order and the tracks slide together easily though with some tight connections to ease together. The track to track transitions are smooth if you take the care to set them evenly together. I will be looking into adding more cars and track expansion sets to this model as time progresses but for now I am very happy with my first Christmas display train set. Nothing is more classic than Christmas trains and the Coca-Cola Santa images. Sorry for not having a photo with the tree set up as I wanted to have a test run of the set before going through the trouble of working around the tree.

Nice, but feels cheap

Bought this as a fun item for under the Christmas tree. The last time I owned a Hornby train set was over 30 years ago when they were still made in England. The quality feels a lot less now, with the Coca Cola two container carriage being exceptionally cheap. Its fun, but its definitely not what it was.

Cool little train.

My wife just discovered the enjoyment of model railroading. This is her first train. She loves it. The track package could be a little bigger (oval not just a circle) but for the price - not too bad.

Was not happy with the sizes, cars was very cheaply made.

Size and how cheaply made of trains cars , tracks control stopped working after a couple of hours of play. And for the price I expected better quality! Was very disappointed!

Neat little set

I decided to revisit my misspent childhood and purchase this set. I am happy to report that I was not disappointed at all with it. A really good purchase at just under £70. The loco is a standard 0-4-0 shunter, coming complete with a Santa decorated red closed van and a double container wagon. All carry the Coca Cola logo. A pleasant surprise to this set is the inclusion of a 3rd, yes 3rd, radius oval of track. It might have been tempting to just include a 2nd (or even a 1st) radius. I suspect however that 1st radius could be on the way out, seeing that most, if not all, new locomotives nowadays only take an absolute minimum of 2nd radius. A wagon/coach rerailer is included also, to enable easy placement of rolling stock on the track. That said, it might have helped to have had a double straight for this purpose, but that is only a minor criticism. The controller is a standard train set one, which is just about adequate for this set. The double container wagon could have had better grips to hold the containers in place and the bogies could have been more solid to avoid the slight rocking motion that happens on curves and over points (points are not included in this set). There have been several instances of this set being split to sell individual items separately and yours truly has bought two more double container wagons to extend the train. It always pays to run in a new loco, so 30 minutes at 50% speed in each direction will do to enable a smooth running for a long time to come. A good set, not without its criticisms, but well worth it.

Perfect Christmas train

It looks great, and the quality is there as it seems to be with all Hornby trains. It's a great looking little train with enough track to be set up nicely around a christmas tree!

Great special set whether it's to complement your layout or just for the tree

Reasonably priced and good collectors set. Only one carriage has santa on it so you can you most of the set all year round. Containers are removable so you could put other containers on the carriage.

Amazingly fast delivery!

Arrived less than 24 hrs after it had been ordered - despite sending an email to apologise for the possibility of its being delayed. A fun item for a child model railway enthusiast, will cheer up the layout.
