It's the O-ring for the Kohler shower cartride

I have Kohler fixtures throughout my entire house. All 3 of these O-rings for the shower cartridges have failed, but twice I have replaced the whole unit at a cost of over $80 each. It wasn't until the third one where I realized that I could just buy replacement O-rings. O-ring replacement will run you less than $15 assuming you buy a large, generalized O-ring kit that will last you for 10 years. First- this is the correct large O-ring if water is leaking from underneath the shower handle, but you also need to replace more. You need 4 more small ones though which you can get out of a standard O-ring kit. Make sure you use pluming silicone when you put this and all other-O-rings on. While the longevity of Kohler O-rings is suspect, I'm going to give this 5 stars because it saves you tons of money and is the correct size for the cartridge. This is the correct OEM O-ring and you will likely not find another correct replacement for it.

Expensive for O-Ring but still a cheap fix

My Kohler shower faucet was leaking in the wall. I thought the joints of the pipes in the wall were leaking. Turns out this O-Ring was dry and brittle and was leaking. So, an overpriced O-Ring was still cheaper than replacing the entire valve or having to fix leaky pipes
