I research EVERYTHING I buy online because returns are a pain, debated an electric vs gas mower for weeks, while watching the backyard weeds grow. At the end of the day, for just over $100 (= paying someone else to mow twice) I decided to go for it, with the expectation it won’t last forever but should probably get at least a year out of it, and so relieved I’m DONE trying to fix gas mowers that won’t start and no more gas, oil, spark plugs, starter cords, filters to deal with. I’m a woman in my mid-40’s, not totally out of shape but don’t hit the gym ever, I’m 5’4” (my last gas mower was hard to push with a handle way too tall). With that in mind, hopefully this will help if you’re on the fence… Pros: 15 minutes from opening box to ready to mow. Easy set-up. Mowed my overgrown backyard with ease, no bogging down or clogging like the gas mower. Sounded like a regular lawnmower to me (some reviewers mentioned electric mowers were quieter but I didn’t notice that & wear earbuds anyway). Nice change breathing in only the smell of freshly cut grass without gas. Very lightweight (lighter than any carpet/steam cleaner I’ve had/used), easy to lift & carry. Easy to maneuver & push, despite not being self-propelled, because it’s so light. The handle folds forward so it takes up very little space. I only used it once for a couple hours to mow the backyard, & didn’t really find any cons per se, but a few other factors I considered when choosing THIS mower: The cord will take a little getting used to, I’ve mowed grass since I was a young teenager (30+ yrs), this is like a combo of vacuuming & mowing grass, by no means difficult just different. My yard isn’t small (over 1/2 acre, 100’ cord barely reached from the house to the back corner), most people wldnt recommend/use a corded mower for this size backyard, but I’ve never used an electric mower, needed a mower asap & wanted to invest the least possible, knowing I can upgrade in the future when I have a little more to invest in a cordless if I decided I liked electric better (my dad paid $600 for a new cordless mower last year, I didn’t have that much to spend right now & didn’t know how it would work here vs his small, flat yard by the beach). Reviews for mowers with bags said they get back-heavy/tip as the bag fills up, I never bag grass clippings so no bag was fine with me (figured that might also lower the price). There was a $20 coupon when I purchased so with the $27 Amazon 100’ extension cord, I paid around $140 total, less than half the cost of a comparable gas mower (a gas straight push mower is in no way comparable to this, I mowed a 1-acre yard with a push mower all summer a few years ago & it was pure hell in July/August in Georgia) & there are no ongoing costs for gas, filters, spark plugs, etc. In summary, IMHO this mower’s a good deal & definitely worth a try. However, I can’t speak to longevity as it literally arrived & was used today. Rest assured, if my opinion changes over the coming weeks, as it’ll be used at least once or twice weekly as we move into summer (I have 2 dogs & keep the grass short because of fleas, snakes, etc), I’ll definitely update my review accordingly.
